I book started out well but the middle seemed to drag a little too much to keep my attention. The ending left much to be desired.

The third novel of the "Prey" series is an excellent mystery of a deranged killer who is completely without a moral compass and becomes Lucas Davenport's worst nightmare. The story is full of action, violence and psychological suspense. It's better than a roller coaster ride! The characters, both the good guys and bad, are extremely well written. The ending was surprising and managed to tie up all the loose ends.

This was my first time listening to/reading a John Sandford "Lucas Davenport" novel and I quickly got sucked in. I will definitely follow this series!

Wow! This is the third book in the Lucas Davenport series. You know who the killers are from the start of the book. Now you get to find out how they get caught. Lucas continues to get more unstable in his personal life as well. No more details. Just read it. It is well worth it. Peace out.

Eyes of Prey was a bit of a disturbing read. The killer is obsessed with himself and takes a myriad of illegal drugs just to stay happy and functioning. He's also obsessed with death and what happens to people at the moment of death. He feels the eyes are a window and that they must be destroyed or the dead person can haunt you. The deaths were pretty brutal in this book and I really didn't 't like the killer (not that you're supposed to like the killer, but he was so despicable that I thought about stopping reading the book). In the end, I finished the book and am on to the next in the series. I still rated this book 3 stars because the rest of the story was good. Davenport is continuing to grow on me as a character and comes across as more of a real person.

After the Crow case, Lucas Davenport is on the edge, mentally. He's fallen into a deep depression and can't seem to find his way out. Until it is suggested he look into the seemingly random murder of a woman. The murder is made to look like it was done by an addict who happened upon the woman in her kitchen. Something about the case piques Davenport's interest as nothing has since the Crow case. Soon, there is another killing with a similar m.o., but Davenport is confused by the differences. In each of the murders, the eyes of the victim have been cut out or mutilated.

It was nice to go back to an author I like and characters I am familiar with. I like the character of Lucas Davenport, a Minneapolis police officer who drives around in a black Porche. Sanford added an interesting twist to this story by having two killers. One with horrible facial scars who is considered ugly by the world, and one whose face is as close to perfect as possible and many find beautiful. Not only is the murder plot interesting, but Sanford spends some time on our hero Lucas Davenport and how he is coming back from his deep depression. There is also an interesting twist at the end that I never predicted. I think that I liked this “Prey” installment better than the previous two.

One of the Prey series featuring Lucas Davneport by MN based John Sanford. I did not enjoy the book to a huge extent, but found it easy to finish. My favorite part was it being set in the Twin Cities with recognizable places and areas. It is not a traditional mystery novel as one of the killers is revealed in the first sentece. Perhaps the brutality (truth) of the murders was a bit too much for me. I would try another Sanford book though as I thought he wrote well and the books are set in MN.
