The "Prey" series matures with one heck of an entry

As was the case with the first two books in John Sandford's "Prey" series- "Rules of Prey" and "Shadow "Prey"- I just wanted this third entry, "Eyes of Prey", to once again deliver solid police-thriller story and action with nothing fancy. And I got that. But slamming me to the ground at the last moment- on the final two pages, no less!- was a kickin' surprise ending worthy of "The Sixth Sense". I'm not saying it was supernatural (it wasn't), but it was the kind of ending that made you say "whoa!" and question every little thing you read before. And it was the best kind of surprise ending, in that it played fair and made sense yet was still completely surprising. And it made me rush out to get the next book in this series, "Silent Prey", even though I'd planned to take a little break before moving onto the next title. Way to go, Mr. Sandford... it's great having an author who's truly interested in wowing his readers.
Best of the Prey Novels

In Eyes of Prey, John Sandford has given us one of the most entertaining serial killers in crime fiction; a strikingly handsome, narcotic popping, eyeball obsessing freak-show named Dr. Michael Bekker. Yes, Lucas Davenport is a great character (a tortured and complicated soul, not without character flaws) but for my money, the best crime novels feature a good killer, and this crazy doctor is one of the best. Sandford is one of the top writers in this genre and while all the Prey novels are worth reading, Eyes of Prey stands head and shoulders above the rest.

There is no mystery about the identity of the killers in this novel (there are two at work) but that doesn't mean that there aren't twists in store for the reader. Eyes of Prey is well written, fast paced, violent and creepy, (Dr. Bekker is convinced that his victims eyes can stare at him if they aren't removed).

This novel may not be for the squeamish, but for fans of fast paced crime fiction this is a ride worth taking.
Seems over-rated to me....

It was hard to believe this book was written by the same author as Rules of Prey. The book was bizarre, fragmented and confusing. You were dropped right into it without any explanation of who people were. The surprise twist at the very ending was interesting, but it didn't make up for the rest of it. I didn't read the book just before it because it didn't get good ratings so that probably played a part of my confusion, but you should be able to pick up a book and it stand somewhat on its own. Personally, if I had to read it again, I would pass. I hope the rest of Sandford's books are better.

Not a book for the squemish or if getting into the head of a psycho isn't your bag of tea don't even open this book. On the other hand if your the blood-and-guts/what-a-nut type, this is the book for you. A real page turner. I had a lot of trouble putting this one down. Once again, Lucas Davenport has a lot to unravel. He plays a real cat and mouse game with his protaganist. Very interesting....
If you love to be scared and creeped out this is for you!

This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you don't like gore don't read. If you like reading about people who are definitely disturbed you will love this book!
