Great fantasy book, good heist story and a nice take on the whole messiah story that is cliche in so many books of this genre.

A compelling Novel, and the beginning of a great series! Sanderson has a well thought out magic system, that is completley unique. The story was always moving and the characters are one's to laugh with and cry over.

Mistborn: The Final Empire is one of the best books that I've read in a long time, because it was something that was truly original and creative. It kept me interested throughout the entire book. Brandon Sanderson does a great job in capturing and keeping the intrigue of the reader. He continuously has different things going on in the book and keeps an air of mystery. This book was seriously one of those types of books that you can't put down the moment you pick it up. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy, because it is truly amazing.

This is the best fictional book I have read in a couple of years. Engaging and captivating. I didn't want to put it down.

Have you ever read one of those books where you're just WAITING for it to finish but you can't quit reading it because you're kind of interested where the story is going and you don't want to be a quitter so you stick it out, hoping it gets better and then you get to the end and realize it didn't? Mistborn: The Final Empire is one of those books.

This is a story where the Dark Lord has won. Skies are no longer blue, plants are no longer green, ash falls from the sky daily, half of the population is oppressed and strange creatures called inquisitors strike fear in even the noblemen's hearts. It's a story about the ultimate heist, the overthrowing of a centuries long empire. Sanderson has crafted a highly detailed world and magic system unlike anything I have read before. Mistborn is chock-full of political intrigue, riveting action scenes, friendships, betrayals, and a new magic system, allomancy, to the Mistborn world...all this and a dash of romance (just a pinch).

The two main characters, Kelsier and Vin, are both Mistborn. Kelsier, as crewleader, takes Vin under his wing and teaches her how to use her powers and entrusts her with one of the most important duties of the crew. Vin, under Kelsier's tutelage, learns not only about her allomantic abilities but also some of life's many great lessons.

The book is a sightly slow-going in the beginning, but it rapidly picks up it's pace once the crew is formed. I only really have one small quibble. At times the magic system felt like a bit of an infodump. They weren't quite infodumps as Sanderson placed most of the magic system explanation in convenient training exercises and discussion between Kelsier and Vin. It was information that the reader needed to know to fully understand allomancy, yet at the same time it sometimes felt a bit contrived in the manner that it was being revealed to the reader.

Overall, Sanderson is obviously a boon to fantasy. He has brought a freshness and an overturning of many of the cliches to the genre. Though the Final Empire is a story in and of itself (I found the ending quite satisfying), it is a part of a trilogy and Sanderson definitely left some open strings for the other two books, which I will definitely be picking up.

An interesting book. Although there was some dawdling, and the plot really didn't need those loose ends (also known as 'sequel bait'), Mistborn was a good book.

I especially enjoyed the story of the rise of the Lord Ruler, although it seemed like a cop-out to remove the fallen hero part, which I was waiting for: what twisted him into the Lord Ruler? Unfortunately, Sanderson doesn't use it that way. Still, the way he told that story was interesting, and kept me reading, hoping for more details into the mystery.

When I first bought this book, I was expecting...I don't know, exactly. The final (and hidden) plot of Kelsier's was incredibly badass but also impractical, and a little improbable.

In conclusion, I enjoyed this book, although it was frustrating at times.

Mr. Sanderson's first series following his impressive debut Elantris is spectacular. Another set of books I'd rather read into the night than put down and go to sleep, with a system of magic that truly adds a new kink to an oft-abused genre. If he can do the Wheel of Time as skillfully as he brought us these, I've no fear he'll end it with a flourish.
