“This book is a compilation of facts about the history of Information Technology. The book explains the current state of things: operating systems, the web and the web 2.0, edition of digital documents, open source etc. and how it all came to happen. The main line of thinking behind the book is that the world has been cheated out of the real potential of this digital era of ours into mediocrity by a bunch of money-hungry, marketing-savvy, morally-limber, sometimes inspired and always sly rock star geeks that again, and again, got their way. The author is Ted Nelson, an insider of the industry, the mind after alternatives (to standard digital documents) like the Xanadu hypertext project: http://xanadu.com/ During the whole reading one can detect quite a bit of frustration and bitterness but in my opinion that doesn't affect the objective presentation of facts (and some of them are juicy) ”
