Cast of Characters/Important People

  • Katniss Everdeen: 17 years old and the most recent (and only) co-victor of the Hunger Games. Also, the first victor for District 12 in 25 years. She is excellent at archery and providing for her family, even if it is illegal. Her family comes first, then her best friend Gale. She says what she means. She does what needs to be done to survive.
  • Peeta Mellark: Born to the local baker and recent co-victor of the Hunger games, Peeta is desperately in love with Katniss and has been since he was young. He has an unerring sense of what is right and just and good and is led by his heart. He is strong and likeable.
  • Haymitch Abernathy: District 12's only living victor prior to Peeta and Katniss. Haymitch is a drunkard and brash. He does not apologize for what he does. His alcoholism seems to be a direct result of winning the Games 25 years ago.
  • Cinna: Mysterious. He is the head of Katniss's design team, and one of the few people she truly trusts.
  • President Snow: Breath that smells of blood, evil incarnate, and out to destroy Katniss and her family and friends for making him look like a fool and insighting a riot in the other districts.
  • Gale Hawthorne: Katniss's best friend and hunting partner. Both he and Katniss are the main providers for their families since their fathers both died in a mining accident. He has been jealous and distant since the games and the implication that Peeta and Katniss are a couple. He now works in the mines. He wants to motivate the people of District 12 to rise up against the Capitol.
  • Mags: Winner of the sixth hunger games from district 4 she volunteered in the place of Annie
  • Finnick Odair: Finnick is a handsome 24-year old from District 4 that specializes in fishing. This leads to his advantage in the 75th Hunger Games beach area in the arena. A powerful ally of the District 12 tributes. He also saved Peeta countless of times and Katniss, afterward, hesitates to kill him because "she owes him too much". His true lover is a "mad woman" back in District 4 - a past Hunger Game victor. He is described with stunning bronze hair and beautiful with hundreds of fans in the Capitol.
  • Johanna Mason: A somewhat rude character from District 7. Although, she proved that she was on Katniss's side when she risked her life retrieving - and saving - Beetee's and Wiress's lives after Katniss specifically told Haymitch she wanted them on her side. But her actions were questionable when she attacked Katniss in the arena, but really was removing a Capitol Tracking Device put into all tributes through a syringe before the games. Being from District 7, she's skilled with hammers, axes, etc.
  • Primrose Everdeen: Healer and younger sister of Katniss.
  • Bonnie and Twill: Bonnie and Twill are escapees from District 8. The two escaped from the uprising in District 8. They both used to work in a factory after school and they stole Peacekeeper uniforms from the factory, trying to escape to District 13, known to have been destroyed 75 years ago. Both are on Katniss' side and they proved this by showing her the cracker with the mockingjay on it, a symbol of hope and the rebellion.
  • Beetee and Wiress: Beetee and Wiress are a couple from District 3 that help Katniss and Peeta in their return to the arena. Both are intelligent with a exceptionally great observation skills and get nervous or fidgety around other people. Although, Wiress was killed with a slit of the throat, while Beetee's fate remains unsure of in the company of the rebellion's medical technology after getting caught in the explosion. They're both described as small, with ashed skin, and black hair. Very similar to District 12's people.
  • Plutarch Heavensbee: The Head Gamemaker in the 75th Hunger Games while the last one was executed because of Katniss's rebellion with the berries. His pocket-watch of the Mockingjay was a key signifier that Wiress's theory about the arena being a "clock" was true. He is also an important figure disguised as a Gamemaker, but actually being one of the "seeds" to the rebellion.
  • Enobaria: A female tribute. She is very strong
  • Cecelia: Mother if three kids and forced to go back to the arena.
  • Annie: Not seen but mentioned. She has a problem and Mags takes her place when she is called to compete in the Hunger Games Quarter Quell

Memorable Quotes

  • “Poor Finnick. Is this the first time in your life you haven't looked pretty?”
    Katniss
  • “I don't have a talent, unless you count hunting illegally, which they don't.”
    Katniss
  • “What does this mean? It means I get to spend the morning having the hair ripped off my body while Peeta sleeps in.”
    Katniss
  • “"If I could've just hated him in the arena, we all wouldn't be in this mess now. He'd be dead, and I'd be a happy little victor all by myself."”
    Katniss
  • “I feel that thing again. The thing I only felt once before. In the cave last year, when I was trying to get Haymitch to send us food. I kissed Peeta about a thousand times during those games and after. But there was only one kiss that made me feel something stir deep inside. Only one that made me want more. But my head wound started bleeding and he made me lie down. This time, there was nothing but us to interrupt us. And after a few attempts Peeta gives up on talking. The sensation inside me grows warmer and spreads out from my chest, down through my body, out along my arms and legs to the tips of my being. Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect of making my need greater. I thought I was something of an expert on hunger, but this us an entirely new kind.”
