i cannot wait to read this, i loved the first one!
are you kidding? she doesn't love him. I think gale is the one for her.
Um, also, not that I don't love suzanne collins and all, but what the heck kind of name is katniss?
i hope i'm not dissapionted with the second one!!! the first waz the best eva! iz it out yet???
I was able to read an advanced copy of the book. You will NOT be disappointed! There will be a third book in the series.
1st chapter here: http://www.thehungergames.co.uk/download/catching_fire_sample_chapter.pdf
Looking forward to sep 1st :D
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sooooooooooo excited!!! can't wait!!!
I cannot wait until this book comes out. i have been dying to find out what it will be like.
Who's planning to buy Catching Fire, the day it hits shelves? I would love to own a copy the first day, but money's tight & I have Library Late Fees, plus, the Library usually doesn't get new books as quick as the stores. .:cries:.
I bought it at Barnes and Noble, right as the store opened at 9am! I'm 15, and there was a 30-something-year-old man standing in line behind me, also buying a copy of the book! I felt so glad to be part of a multi-generational phenomenon like this! (Not quite as sweeping as Harry Potter, of course, but still significant)
I bought it the day it came out! The clerk said they sent 60 copies to the store on the first day, and buy the time I got there (3 pm) there were 4 copies left!
I was in a little town in Colorado when it came out, a movie rental place also had books, They had ordered 4 copies. Thankfully.
I hope you get yours!
gawd! the first book is just undeniably GREATNESS objectified. Now I don't know how I would be able to describe the second one if it comes out more heavenly better than the first!
Luckily I don't start school until September 3rd; that means x-hours of straight reading! Hooray!
I don't get mine until October! It's so frustrating! We were all expecting it to come in September, sadly our town is so small and stupid. Sigh, I guess I'll have to wait.
i cant wait.....hunger games was so interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!cant wait
Dumb library didn't order it!!!!!!! I may have to camp out at Barnes and Noble for a few days to read it!
Your library has their head in the sand. What librarian worth their salt doesn't pre-order the sequel to a New York Times Bestseller? Wow, you have my sympathies.
I didn't hate this book, but I didn't love it. I loved Hunger Games. I just felt disappointed... It seems more like this book is just a stepping stone to the third. Trilogies do that sometimes. The authors feel like they need three books and the middle one is always a transition. Something happens.... but it really don't mean that much. The third one will be good though... action packed like the first.
However, I really do think this book showed all the inter working of the uprisings. It showed that a revolution or change cannot happen without either force, or some sort of drastic measure. Of course it was somewhat of a stepping stone, but there was much to read in between the lines. (personal opinion)
I love Peeta!! I started crying when he hit the force field and died. But then I laughed when I reached the next chapter.
I just finished it an hour ago and still need time to take it all in! Now i want the third one!
yes i am STILL thinking about it! i love that book sooo much! i looove both actually lol!!!
I TOTALLY LOVED IT! :| some people think it's just s stepping stone and it very well could be or is.. but i still loved it none the less.. i want to talk about it soo bad but i won't spoil anything for anyone.. BUT i will say when i got to the end.. (and yes i did say this out loud lol!!) OH @^&$ !!!!!! haha i realllly did say that... im totaly stoked for the thrid!!!!!!!!!!!!
I totally agree! I wish someone I know would read it so I'd have someone to talk to about it!
IMHO, I think the book is a great progression of the story. To go from book 1 to book 3 without showing the gradual uprising would somehow not have the same feel for me. The threats from President Snow, the surprises during the tour, the announcement of the Quell, treatment of certain characters all make book 3 ripe for the uprising.
Can't wait till the third! Does anyone know when it's coming out? Or what it's called? OH MY GOSH if Suzanne Collins kills Peeta I'm going to be extremely upset. Katniss needs to let go of Gale and stay with Peeta! He's so much better than Gale is.
I agree with you about Peeta! I'm not really sure what Katniss likes about Gale...but that's probably just because Suzanne Collins didn't characterize him as thoroughly as she did Peeta.
Wow!!! I love this series!!! I just finished the book this morning. I'm sad that it was left such a cliffhanger, but I'm just assuming that the next book will resolve the Katniss/Peeta/Gale thing well and believing Collins won't kill any of them off.
I thought the first two sections were slow. I don't like the first person writing. Sometimes it seemed like a "travel dialogue" where she wrote...this happened, then this, then we went here, then... I found that to be really boring. BUT, that being said, I like writers who take chances and it feels like this was a chance with Collins. Did she write in first person with Hunger Games? I lent my copy out so I don't remember.
Besides that, I LOVED everything else.
I have my own opinion on who Katniss should end up with. I think Peeta is her match. He's steady and smart and calm. Gale is too much like Katniss, hunter, driven by anger, strong. Not that Peeta isn't strong, just in a different way. I think Katniss and Peeta balance each other out so well. PLUS, we know that Katniss feels the spark that is so necessary in romantic relationships. The kissing scene was yummy. I always wish there was more of that for Katniss and Peeta. They deserve more happiness.
All this being said, we really don't know too much about the emotional makeup of Gale. He's really been left out of so much of both books. Who is he? Did he have a relationship with Madge? There's a slight hint of it in this book. It seems as if he'll have a bigger part in the third book, and I'm looking forward to understanding him better.
How long do we have to wait for the next book? UGH!!!! I'm glad we have this forum to keep me company and involved in the story while I wait!!
I can't stop thinking about this book. I love all the secrets and rebelion. I want to find out so much after reading that cliff hanger ending. i want to know all about disrict 13 and haymitches plan. Can't wait till 3rd book
Great job by suzanne Collins
Simple question, but I read too fast to know the answer: Who is Seneca Crane? The person that Katniss named on the dummy she hung during her presentation to the judges.
I believe that Seneca Crane was the Head Gamer in the Hunger Games, before Plutarch Heavensbee is promoted, I think he was executed for something that went wrong in the games but I cannot remember exactly why, although I think it was because they ended up with two winners. But I could be wrong. I wasn't really paying all that much attention to those kinds of details, I was reading fast too.
After I posted this question here I googled it. It would appear you are correct, Seneca was the Head Gamer. Executed for letting Katniss's little berry stunt go.
Ugg, I can't wait for the next book to come out!!!!!!! This book is amazing!!!
is this series that good as people are saying i dont want to read them if there arent
dnt worry. it's NOT overrated. it deserves all the praise it gets. if u dnt believe me then read it and make ur own judgement. =)
The series really is great. Def. worth the read. You'll read them super fast b/c you won't want to put 'em down. Plot... fantastic! Characters... very lovable! Writing... Great! I can't wait for book 3.
trust be these books are truly amazing. they"ll leave you hanging
I think this series is totally awesome! When I got the second one, I read the whole night through. I don't suggest you do that, because obviously you'll be really tired the next day, but definitely read the books.
Oh my god! They are amazing! I read Catching Fire last night (the second book in the series) and the suspense was awesome! I absolutely LOVE Suzanne Collins' style of writing, cus it kept me on edge and made me want more and more. I couldn't put the book down for a single second!
I am currently reading this book and am enjoying the themes presented by Ms. Collins. I wanted to start a discussion with a question. In the real world, how much oppression does a government need to commit before it justifies its citizens in committing violent opposition to that oppression? How do we know when it is time to act? I believe that the characters in Panema are certainly justified, however, for example would we need to rebel if our gov't was just lying to us (like with the last administration in the US). Would love to hear what others have to say about this topic.
John
burblingbooks.blogspot.com
But look how long it took these people to rebel again after the last time they tried. There is that risk that they will lose so much more than they could gain.
And plus, this day in age, I just don't know that revolution is possible. Back at the first American Revolution, we had more of a chance. We were more evenly matched with our government. Now they have control of the military. And not everything can end as "happily" as V for Vendetta! :P
I don't really know the answer to your question. Mostly because I'm so pessimistic in that, I don't believe a revolution would work. I believe the citizens would lose out on much more that we are losing out on now. Lies will exist in government forever. That's just the way of it. It is sad but true. Revolution won't change that.
Well, in the American Revolution, at first, the colonies weren't supposed to stand a chance. People were expecting them to lose quickly. Even after they won, people expected their new government to collapse. And I think if there was a rebellion now, we could end up with something a lot worse. And I think it's true that lies will always be in the government, especially in large countries. That's just what happens when there's power.
I think because presidant snow is so evil that these books are so good. Every book has to have a villain, right? And can you think of anyone (maybe involved in the government, in any country) that some people consider evil?
Hmmm... Calling the attention of Ms. Collins. Can't wait for the third book to come out. Please, please we really want to know what will happen to Katniss, oh Katniss! And to poor Peeta... And Gale...
Is there a thing such as Team Peeta and Team Gale?! If there isn't well, it's time to have one! Who's with Peeta?! Gale?!
I agree, Team Gale. I think it's really sweet how Peeta loves Katniss, but I think he could probably find someone he's more compatible with. Actually, I was wondering if he'll end up with Madge.
team peeta cuz gale spent years with katniss and didn't seem to have any feelings where as peeta has had feelings for a while...
I have not read the 2ent one yet but i plan on it!
I have fell in LOVE with this book! I love the chars, I miss Roo!!
And i cant believe what they did to them in the end!!!! Suzanne Collins' is an incredable writer!!!
I,m writing a novel,too!
I can't decide between Peeta and Gale. I fell in love with Peeta, but I really like Gale too. If I had to choose it would be Peeta, but it's so hard.
But Katniss mentioned a few times that Peeta was really popular in school. After all, he is a merchant's kid.
i really really hope that katniss ends up with peeta!!!!!he is so amazing!!!i hv a feeling that madge and gale might end up as a couple.this love triangle is as good as twilight.so all twilight fans u've to read this!
I almost thought maybe Katniss and Gale would end up together while Peeta and Madge seemed better suited together. But no offense, I think the more interesting thing I want to find out in the third book is if the rebels win the war or not against the Capitol.
Katniss was such a jerk in this book to me. I hate the way she treats Peeta all throughout the book when all he ever did was love her with every molecule in his body and never did anything wrong to her!
Calm down. I dont think she was such a jerk as she was some of the times in Hunger Games
I'm confused. Yeah, Peeta loves her, but it's not like she can force herself to love him back. I don't really think she's that much of a jerk, she's just honest about the way she feels. It would be worse if she lead him on. Plus, she was trying to save him. When they went back in the arena, she was doing everything she could to make sure he got out alive.
I wonder what the next book is called? Anyone got any details? I just love these kind of books. Suzannae collins is an amazing writer.
It's called Mockingjay. http://www.shelfari.com/books/12992816/Mockingjay
Does anyone have any theories as to how the rebels might win the war? And maybe the Capitol is going to come up with more mutations.
i think they should try to escape to district 13, and stage their unified stand there...i suspect that the underground theory of those who survived the government attack is true...
the series is great, can't wait for the 3rd installment.. the plot has enough action and adventure with a love triangle twist thrown in for good measure...but not overly done as to be mushy...=)
This book is really good. I don't think you would be too confused if you read this one without reading the first one, but I think you would still like it a lot better if you read the first book first.
Yes, most likely. You should DEFINITELY read the first one. It's REALLY good!!
Any guesses as to what would happen to Peeta in Book 3? I'd hate to see him get tortured by the Capitol people...
I can't image President Snow having Peeta in his clutches and not torturing him. But I'm really, really hoping they're able to rescue him.
What do you mean, booo Gale? Why don't you like him? He's really honest and nice and he really cares about his family.
I like Peeta, but Gale is WAY better. If she wants us to like Gale, she should put more of him in the books. The books are basically all Peeta
i didnt like this one as much as the first one... i bet everyone is going to run off to district 13 untill district 12 is better and then move back..
Really? I thought this one was way more exciting than the first one. And I'm not sure district 12 is going to get better since it's been, well, destroyed to a point of nonexistance. Plus, it pretty much tells you in the book there's going to be another war.
i thought both books were very good. i can't even imagin what the war is going to be like but i don't think anyone is going back to district 12.
I know! I can't wait to see what happens! I keep trying to imagine what new mutations the Capitol will come up with.
It was totally awesome! I'm counting down the days until the third one comes out.
I LIKED THIS BOOK BUT I DIDNT THINK IT WAS AS GOOD AS THE HUNGER GAMES!
haha, yeah I guess it was good at being a cliffhanger, but I don't really like cliffhangers. Every time I mention that to a friend, they're like "well, they just want you to read the next book." If I could, I would make a deal with every author who has written series that I read that I would read every single sequel if they make the endings less of a cliffhanger.
i hate clifthangers too!
like isabel said they just want u to buy more of their books to sell more, unfurtuneally it works :(
I found this book far more like a movie sequel than a second book in a series. Reading it, it felt like the author had intended Hunger Games to stand alone, but after its success she (or her publisher) decided to write a continuation. The plot was not only weak, but almost a bad version of the Hunger Games, as if the author couldn't come up with any new ideas so she had to throw the same events at us again. I adore The Hunger Games, but caution people not to read the sequel because, like with many movie sequels, Catching Fire partially ruined the original for me.
I completely disagree i think Catching Fire is a fantastic sequel. It kept me gripped just like the hunger games and left me dying to read more, the cliffhanger at the end was brilliant!
I agree that it was weaker, but it is the second of a trilogy. That is generally how it goes. I mean, Two Towers is definitely the weakest of the LOTR books. The second book just leads to the third. So, I definitely enjoyed this story as it carries us forward to the 3rd.
huh? That's interesting because I didn't feel that way at all. I never felt like the story was complete after I finished The Hunger Games. I always felt that Katniss had more to accomplish against the capitol! I, in fact thought the plot was amazing and the characters were much better in this one. I thought it was a dreadfully fantastic idea to bring back old tributes. I think everyone SHOULD read the sequel!
i LOVE how most of the ratings for this book is mostly 4 and 5 stars!! :D
I have already read Hunger Games and I want to know if Catching Fire is as good as the first one
i compleatly disagree with rebecca, catching fire is just as actiom packed as the hunger games testing everyone even more. i think u should read it so u can make ur own rating :)
I love this book, but i liked the hunger games better. Unlike some people, (hint hint) I like the plot...
I like the people who are "playing" In this one, because they seem more... just more...better
I liked the Hunger Games, but Catching Fire just didn't live up to my expectations. The evil dictator was the quintessential example of the super-villian who is evil for no reason. This guy even smells like blood and death. C'mon. I like some character development in my bad guys, even just a little would appease me... but none at all. I just couldn't get past it.
I truly enjoyed this book. I thought the twist at the end of the book was amazing. I was wishing book 3 was here when I finished it. What about District 13?
whats this book like? i'v heard some good things about it but im not sure if it's right for me.
who do you think she should be with? Gale or Peeta? its such a hard choice!!
i totally think Peeta, they have been through so much together,... i know that the same could be said with Katniss and Gale but i just dont get the right kind of vibes from them,....I mean just look at the kiss between Katniss and Peeta on the beach....just perfect ha is starting to really get behind all of her defences,... i REALLY hope that they end up together [3
I think Gale. Peeta's really sweet and all, but I think he can find someone who actually likes him back without a doubt. Maybe he could end up with Katniss' friend Madge.
Ok. (no spoilers please)
Like, how can I not LOVE this book even mORe than the prequel?
Jabber Jays?!
a combination of my love for bird vocalizations,
Alice in Wonderland (... remember the Jabberwocky?),
and apolyptic or other future society stories ...
LOVE
Love
love
..
.
This ending left me on the edge of my seat! It felt like I had just finished watching a cliffhanger episode of Lost.
I can't wait for the third book! The second book was great, but I got so frustrated at that cliffhanger...Then again, I guess I wouldn't be too interested in buying the next book if she didn't end like that...needneedneedneedneed 3rd book!
I hate cliffhangers! I know that authors do that so people will read the next book, but it still bothers me. I will make a deal with them that if they don't leave such huge cliffhangers, I will still read the next book!
Is anyone else extremely angry with Haymitch? I mean he used her as a pawn just like the Capitol plays games with everyone! Does he not see his hypocrisy? It makes me so upset,....she at least could have been told what was going on,....i think she has earned that right!!!! What are every one elses thoughts? I really want to know =)
I'm glad Haymitch did what he did. Not mad but glad he did it. Katniss is brave, but not enough to bring the rebellion. On the other hand, Haymitch is smart AND reckless, Kanitss is only reckless and smart when she wants. I'm sad Gale and Katniss haven't had a chance to show their love to each other, but I think what Katniss feels for him is not more than what she feels for Prim. On the other hand Peeta has loved her, and never asked anything in return. Slowly Katniss will realize he's a keeper. Aug. 24 cannot come fast enough
I'm kinda mad at Haymitch, but at the same, he knew Katniss wanted a revolution, so he wasn't completely using her if he was doing something he though she'd approve of. I do think he should've told her, but I kinda get the reasons why he didn't. I think it's really sweet that Peeta loves Katniss so unconditionally, but I think he deserves someone who unhesitantly loves him back.
I feel bad for Peeta because he's so in love with Katniss. While Katniss only pretended to love Peeta for the Games. I think that the two of them will end up being happy together.
I think Katniss is only in denial but truly loves Peeta. She hints that when they're kissing in the arena
OMG I TOTALLY heart the epic Gale Katniss Peeta love triangle thing... and it seems she's REALLY in love with both of them and there are no real clues hinting to one or the other so I'm pretty sure one of them is going to die and Katniss is gonna end up with the other
AND I CANT WAIT FOR THE THRID BOOK UHHHHHH SEPTEMBER IS SOOOOO FAR AWAY!!!!!
The end really left me hanging and wanting for more! I wonder what happened to Peeta, and how come Gale was there with Katniss at the last scene? I'm also very curious who Katniss will end up with. I really want it to be Peeta, he's just so selfless and loves Katniss so much. I think Katniss feels the same way too but just doesn't admit it or doesn't realize it yet, what with Gale and all that she's facing.
I think you're right with the part where Katniss doesn't realize that she loves Peeta. But then again, you need to think of how Gale would react when they get 'married' like they said they would. I think Katniss forgot about the acting and actually does love him, but just tells herself she doesn't.
No, not really. Peeta just made that up to gain audience sympathy.
Yeah, I think the author would've mentioned her getting pregnant before Peeta makes a huge announcement like that. And besides, Peeta's a pretty good liar, remember?
Plus since katniss is the protagonist don't you think she would have mentioned that kind of a relationship with Peeta??
Can't there be a team Pele? (Peeta & Gale) lol but I'm mostly on Team Peeta~
Are people seriously doing Team Peeta and Team Gale? I can't believe they're dumbing it down to the romance when it's completely Team Districts vs Team Capital. The story is about the war between those in command and those who are being commanded. The love is just a side-plot that helps it progress on.
PLZ DONT MAKE "TEAM PEETA" AND "TEAM GALE" LIKE "TEAM EDWARD" AND TEAM WHATS IS NAME?" LIKE IN TWILIGHT.
TEAMS R VERY VERY..... STUPID THATS WAT IM TRYING TO SAY!!!!!!!
oh please it is THEIR OPINION and it is not stupid until THEY say it is you have no authority to call anyones opinion stupid Team Peeta and Team Gale are just easier ways of say who THEY think Katniss belongs with. Now is there anything wrong with that?
Again, please read more carefully before replying to a post. The person below you is saying people should discuss more than just relationships. Max m did NOT say that people liking Gale or Peeta is stupid. Max m is saying that if that is all you talk about with these incredible books, it is stupid. There is more to talk about than relationships.
AGain, please read more carefully before replying.
And why did you reply to me? O.O lol I never said it was stupid. I never anything about the people. And you're contradicting yourself right there.
You said it is "THEIR OPINION"
Yet what I said is my opinion. And what I said was I can't believe people are dumbing down the novel to Twilight standards with team peeta and team gale stuff.
What do you think will happen in Mockingjay? go to mockingjay and my sister listed a few of our theories for it but i have more you will find them next to the picture of Snoopy
They better not do that. I would be the most irritated person on the planet!
Ok so honestly while i don't agree with creating teams for these books i don't care of other people do. Anyway I do not think the Suzanne Collins would kill off Peeta. It would ruin things for some people. She may kill Gale off though. But (and don't jump on me for saying this) he wasn't really in the books alot. To me he seemed like a minor character even though he isn't. I think that Katniss will go deep into the Capitol to save Peeta and end up discovering all these dirty capitol secrets...maybe something like they plan to blow up the districts or whatever...and then she will gather up the people she cares about and take them to District 13 where they will start the rebellion. Does that seem quite possible to anyone else? Oh and also...on their journey to 13 a bunch of them will die because the Capitol will do what they did the the red-headed Avox girl...like capture her and stuff. Just saying.
Man....I have to say, it sounds like you have an insider's knowledge of the books! *laugh* Because that plot sounds incredibly plausible and interesting to me.
Yes! Someone who agrees! Some people i have told are say "well now that you have said it it won't be that way" but i don't care. I hope i am wrong so i can be surprised and the book will be better...but i also hope it is that way because it really does sound incredibly interesting to me. (side note: i can't spell :) don't blame me for my bad words!)
your right its cool seeing the opinions of what people think will happen
I totally agree with you michelle g, except about the creating teams opinion. I think it's a fun way for fans to dispute the characters of books. And I can definitely say that I am Team Peeta.
Why on earth would Collins let Katniss end up with Gale? He is hardly in the books. Admittedly, he has been her best friend since childhood, but we, as the readers, didn't get a glimpse of any of that. If she planned on pairing them up, we would have seen a lot more of him.
And I have no doubt in my mind that there will be a rebellion with District 13.
Eee, I can't wait! :D
I have to agree that in terms of actual action in the books, Gale hasn't been set us as that important of a character. We've had two books that he has hardly been in. Though, both of those books are set in a place Gale cannot be, the Games. If the books were set in District 12, he'd be a much bigger character. But, as it is, he is kinda this phantom care giver. A friend, but really, he takes care of his mom, takes care of Katniss, takes care of her family while she's away...he has no real purpose but to serve others. Which, is actually pretty noble, but doesn't make for all that interesting of a character.
Though, I kinda liked that there was this glimmer of him and the mayor's daughter....just sayin'.
Katniss is such an independent girl, I find Gale an interesting partner for her. Not in a romantic way, but as a literary device. Ultimately, they teamed up because two hunters are more productive than one, but it's such an interesting dynamic. Because neither of them really needs the other. But they are obviously drawn to each other. I guess just the birds of a feather thing? They both like that they are rebelling?
Yes! kristen c if the storys had been a bit more oriented around District 12 then i think it would be quite possible for Gale to end up with Katniss...but he became...quite cold around her. I don't fully understand Gale. First it's "I love you" and now it seems like he is trying to say "You don't love me..get out of my life..." and this leads me to think that either Gale is going to die and Katniss is going to realize she loved him...i think she loves him as more of a brother...OR Katniss is going to get hurt and Gale is going to be less cold. But the most simple way to end this (don't get upset with me for this) is to have Gale die and Peeta end up with Katniss...i wonder how they are going to hide the whole "baby" thing...
I think we will learn a lot more about Gale in the third book. (I hope so anyway!)
Ok, let me make this 100% clear, I do NOT think it is stupid that people have started Team Peeta and Team Gale. Of course people are going to take sides.
What is annoying to me is that the love triangle is all anyone wants to talk about. No one seems to want to talk about anything else. And these books have a lot of interesting topics.
That's it. If I hated being on "Teams' I'd hate myself because I too, have an opinion on who Katniss should end up with. But I'd rather discuss the more interesting things like what is in District 13 now? What are some of the secrets of District 1? What do you think of those disctrict 1 leaders who are on Katniss's side? Are there other people in District 1 that feel that way or is the thirst for bloody entertainment too strong for them to care about the humanity of the children they watch killing one another?
See? Way more going on here than some silly romance!
kristin c, people usually talk about whatever the current topic is.
If you change the topic (like you just did) people will be open to discussing it with you.
Just saying.
I think that District 13 is going to be exactly what Suzanne Collins hinted it's going to be. She already got her readers riled up for it, she has to deliver.
Honestly, I hope there are "Games" in the last one. I'll be truthful here, the only thing that kept me reading was the excitement and suspense of the "Games". I guess without them, Collins could deliver an exciting last installment, but the trilogy IS called the Hunger Games.
This would never happen, but a Children vs. the Game Coordinators Game would be awesome. The children would slaughter them. That would almost be the "honorable" way to deal with this. Stick Katniss and Peeta in there against the District President (I forget real titles...) and have them fight to the death. Whoever wins, gets whatever they want. The President would get to keep things as they are, Katniss would get to free the other Districts from the tyranny of District 1.
I would love that.
That sounds a bit violent of me, but I just love the "Games" aspect of the books.
I don't see how it's going to work out the way the story is unfolding now, but who knows?
A good author knows how to surprise. :)
Good point. However, she steered us completely different directions the first two books. I'm sure she's creative enough to make it count. Someone with this storyline ending at three books definitely is going to end the series with a bang.
@Reader I think maybe the games in Mockingjay will be like all over. Not just in an arena. To me the Capitol is going to release even more of their creations and Peacekeepers, forcing the people in the districts to fight. We'll probably meet different people from different districts who ran away and such. So all in all I think that the whole book will be one big Hunger Game. That would be epic!
I agree!
An unorganized Hunger Games would be great.
All these guesses are driving me crazy.
this book is soooo good i just started it and i cant put it down!!!!
which team are you on team Peeta or team Gale
(im team Peeta for sure)
I feel bad for both of them. Peeta is definitely the nicer and cooler one, but it would kill me if I were Gale and watching my true love make out with another dude on national tv. However, if they were all put in the arena, Katniss would win.
OMG this book is amazing but you have to read the first i read the first like at the begining of the year and i finshed it in like 14 hours
hehe, my fav part is when gale is whipped, the interveiw, and when peeta dies
3. In the Hunger Games what score does Katniss receive from her training?
oh i didnt know that *claps hand over mouth* i thought you were done, i don't think i gave away much
Gale isn't a jerk... i just hate him. He's nice and all and he basically saved her and her family from starvation and he cares deeply for the Everdeens. in my opinion, the biggest jerk is Haymitch even though he cares about both of them. he doesn't have to do it so rudely :(
Since Katniss and Peeta were both in the Hunger Games and won that mean their "kids" (if they get married) are certain to be in the Hunger Games, would you like to be face to face in a battle to the death with one of your siblings?
If Katniss is killed what will happen to Peeta? (no right or wrong answer)
will Katniss can't be killed because the book is written in 1st person, and then means that Katniss is telling the story. She will not die because it is very hard for authors to switch the main character. If it was told by another person, then this would be a completely different story. I doubt that the author will take that chance.
Mockingjay comes out August 24th
Can't wait for it =D
http://thesubtlechronicler.blogspot.com/
Am super excited too! I hope this last installment won't be a letdown..=)
They set it up for Mockingjay to have a much larger scale than the first two, but hopefully she can pull it off as well as she did the first two books!
People, ok you know when Katness is at the thing where (before the games begin) you get rated from1-12 on how good your training score was? yah well ya know how she hung that dummy and said it was some one well who is that??
Seneca Crane, who was the Head Gamemaker but was apparently killed for not blasting Katniss to bits when she held up the berries. President Snow blames him and Katniss for there being two winners and therefore making a fool of the capitol.
I got kind of confused at the end with all the hovercrafts and the explosions and the thing about district 13.
Same here. I think the ending went by a little too fast and then it just STOPED! "Katniss, there is no District Tweleve" Huge ending
Does anyone else (who has read the Gregor series by Collins) notice a similarity between Ripred and Haymitch?
How did you like this book? I'm trying to find one of your written reviews.
can someone give me summary or something because im reading mockingjay and its confusing because ive forgotten about what happens in catching fire
After winning the Hunger Games in the previous novel, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark return home to District 12, a poor sector in the fictional country of Panem. On the day that Katniss and Peeta are to start a "victory tour" of the country, she is visited by President Snow.
Katniss and Peeta, rich and famous from having won the annual Hunger Games, are reluctanly embarking on a Capitol-sponsored victory tour through the 12 districts of the dystopian world Panem. They are now seen as a threat to oppressive Capitol, having defied the Gamemakers with their subversive victory. This act of rebellion has ignited growing unrest within the districts. To her dismay, Katniss is looked upon as the leader of this uprising. Katniss briefly considers escaping with her family and friends before reluctantly assuming her role as rebel leader. The insidious President Snow is prepared to do whatever is necessary to quash this budding uprising.
Collins offers readers intriguing insights into the nation of Panem: its power structure, rumors of a secret district, and the spreading rebellion. The story is equally rich in provocative political and social commentary, and exploring epic themes of morality, obedience, oppression, rebellion, redemption, sacrifice and, of course, survival. The author also creates a tantalizing and unresolved love triangle between Katniss, Peeta, and Gale that will leave questioning readers desperate for the next installment. This novel can stand alone but readers will have a much a richer experience if they begin with The Hunger Games.
What did you guys think of the book overall? I thought that it was fantastic. I couldn't put it down from the moment I started it.
Definitely! It was great! I was glad I waited to read the series until all three were published. I couldn't put them down!
Does anyone else think that it is unfortunate that everything bad seems to be dumped on Katniss?
Katniss has to deal with threats to herself, her family, and, of course, Peeta and Gale, deal with entering into the hunger games again, with keeping up her 'in love with Peeta Mellark' act, and, mainly has to keep the rising rebellion a secret and to a minimum. Katniss is not the only one with an unfortunate happening, though...think about Peeta. We now can conclude that Peeta hasn't really been acting his love to Katniss- it's real. Even though his problems aren't nearly as dramatic as Katniss's, he still has to deal with the fact that she will really never love him, and she knows that she's prettymuch teasing him (which is so horrible for him:( ). I don't know why, but I still feel more sorry for Peeta.
Yes Katniss is working too hard... I love all the books though! I'm gonna start watching the movies this weekend! ;]
Catching Fire was my least favorite book in the series. Don't get me wrong, this was still a thrilling book. It had too much romance and not as much action as the Hunger Games. In my opinion, the first book is still the best!
In my opinion, catching fire was my least favorite. I love it still, but I prefer the other two much more. I'm a hopeless romantic so I don't mind all the love in this one. But this one started off slow and it didn't really pick up until they were in the arena again, even though that was short-lived.
Alright folks, I'm starting my dream team for the movies... I want James Masters as Finnick (even if he is too old for the part).
Why do you think Katniss would always pretend to love Peeta, and I'm not talking about acting for the audience? She was aware that he was sort of teasing him, but she left him with other ideas about them as a couple...
She doesn't want to hurt him. In the third one, she kisses Gale and he told her he knew she was going to because she only kisses him when he's in pain. I think the same concept goes for Peeta. And also, she is slightly not pretending because she doesn't know what she feels. She has never felt an urge to like a boy until she was forced to in the hunger games. I hope that helps?
I think she is holding back because she is afraid that if she falls for him she will end up married with kids who will end up in the hunger themselves. She wants to protect her future. I wouldnt want anyone one else to go through something like the hunger games either if I had the choice.
Why do both of the first two hunger games books start off so slow and should i read the third one??
Because that's how the author chose to write it. You need to preheat the oven before you stick it in the oven. And yes read the third one. The beginning does start off a bit slow for the third one (even though i thought the first one picked up the pace quickly) but there a lot of twists and turns and suspense and you never know who to trust and its heart felt and sad, read the third one.
The slow start really helped me understand the characters and the story is much deeper. I think it would be too empty if the author didnt take the time to develop the charaters and plot. So, yes read the next one...its worth it!
how come they keep talking about the baby as if it were real? I thought they were just pretending. Is she actually pregnant?
No, she's not actually pregnant, but she has to make everyone in the Capitol believe she is.
OMG i read the Hunger Games and loved it!! But all bookstores in my country (New Zealand) seem to have sold out and aren't re-stocking. Is it worth buying online from overseas??
I think so, but I suppose it depends on how much it costs to order it from overseas. I don't really know how much that would be. Why aren't they re-stocking?
The ending was so bittersweet. Kudos to the author for having the courage kill off some major characters. I love love love the series. And I love Peeta! [333
The ending really is bittersweet. Probably more bitter than sweet, actually, but that's just my opinion. And I know it makes it more realistic to kill off major characters, but that still makes it sad.
Well, I consider Cinna a fairly big character, and they kinda imply that he gets killed. Plus, there's probably people that Katniss knew from home that didn't survivie the bombing.
Please someone! Tell me about district 13! And why at the end does Gale tell Katniss there's NO district twelve? AH! I'm dying to know! :)
District 13 was officially said to have mine graphite, but in reality developed nuclear weapons. It explains more in the next book, but District 13 was completely obliterated in the first war. That's what Gale means when he tells Katniss there is no District 12; it's been completely destroyed.
District 13 is a district that lives underground and they are trying to fight against the capital. Gale tells Katniss there is no district 12 because the district got bombed by the capital and got totally destroyed.
Yeah, everything gets completely explained in the third book.
District 13 is a district that was destroyed at war and it now is an underground district that has tons of nuclear weapons and is against the capital. In the end Gale tells Katniss there is no district 12 because it was destroyed and is totally gone, because the capital bombed it.
As the Victory tour comes to an end, District 11 is next. Near the end of Katniss and Peeta's visit to District 11, she forgets her flowers on stage. this causes her to see a very disturbing event. An older man killed in front of everyone because he showed an act of rebellion. This is getting good right away, what is going to happen next?
Katniss joins the uprising because Gale decides to run it for District 12. Gale is putting himself in danger by doing this. Katniss is showing her love for Gale by doing this. Wait she is suppose to be in love with Peeta isn't she?
The Reaping of the Quarter Quell is the final main event. The Quarter Quell always has a twist in it, this time it seems like it was especially designed for Katniss. This year all of the wining tributes are in the reaping. Since Katniss is the only winning girl tribute in district 12 she must go back in the games. This means more turmoil.
I absolutely loved this book. I loved it for the action and rebellion. This book was two steps up from the first book. All in all a very well done job. 5 stars for this book.
I really liked this book too, although I've heard people say that they thought the first half was a little slow.
This was a great series. Definitely recommended. What did you read next? I moved on to Bill Muir's The Lost Medallion.
I read The Maze Runner by James Dashner. Not as good. I read Divergent by Veronica Roth later and that was much better and closer to a Hunger Games like book. It starts off slow but once I got into it I couldn't put it down.
Okay so I'm reading this... I've been so enthralled since starting the first one.... but as I get to the avoxes.... It's been like turning my stomach. I know there was a bit about them in the first one... but well the male one... I think it's more personal for Katniss, anyone else agree?
PS the Muttations in the first one reallly made me feel sick to my stomach.... usually books can't do that to me!
Oh, Sorry! I searched him!
Seneca Crane was the Head Gamemaker of the 74th Hunger Games, but made the fatal mistake of letting both Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark survive as victors in the Games. President Snow had him executed in a horrible way because of this.
Can someone give me a pep talk? :) I'm getting really bored of the Hunger Games. But I own the whole series, and I don't want to just leave it on my shelf to gather dust.
Really? I couldn't put the first book down. How far along are you? Maybe if you stick around to the actual games part of the story you will start to like it more. I know that is the part I liked best. Sorry if that wasn't a very good pep talk. At least if you finish the first one and still hate it you can give up on the rest of the series and know that you really tried.
just give to me!.. hahaha.. Seriously, it's a good read.. I can't even imagine why you are bored.
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where they strung up a man they say murdered three.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where the dead man called out for his love to flee.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where I told you to run so we’d both be free.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

Who has Read this book? I read the first one, but I dont know if i should read this one!
I just started this read... I really like it so far...
Before I read the Hunger Games- I wasn't sure if it was something I would like or whether it would be another Hollywood hyped-up book. I was pleasantly suprised by how good the story was. I am sure you thought the same if you read the first book. I would recommend reading it- this author has an originality that I haven't seen in ages. Good luck!
Read the book, it is amazing and has a great ending that almost forces you to read the next book. Suzanne Collins is an amazing author. I haven't known of an author this amazing in years. Hope you enjoy
This is my all time favorite! This is my favorite book out of the three in the trilogy.. who else agrees?
I admit Hunger games have played the 3 books brilliant - but Wolf-Hawk Writing just need some exposure! Give them a try at www.wolfhawkwriting.com
After her Hunger Games victory, Katniss is back with her family and friends in District 12, but word gets around that her and Peeta unknowingly helped cause an unrest in the country of Panem. Suddenly, making people believe Peeta and her and in love is top priority, or else President Snow will step in. But, Katniss is thrown into all too familiar situations and getting Peeta out alive is her only mission, even if others have something else planned.
Katniss is so empowering. I love her thoughts and feelings. I also liked the pull towards Gale and Peeta in Catching Fire. Katniss likes them both, but is emotionally confused and I feel as though it was a bit easier to connect with her, more on an emotional level. Haymitch is still as serious, yet goofy as ever…which is awesome! I really enjoyed the new characters introduced and I couldn’t wait to learn more about them. Each district’s lifestyle is so different that it was really great learning about them, however unfortunate their circumstances were.
is this book as good as the hunger games?(probably not)
I love this book so much and i wish they made a movie of this one
