Salinger’s final published book, in which he further explores his obsession with Seymour Glass, mensch and modern-day avatar. “Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters” is very accessible, a cracker-jack short story, a pure delight. If, like me, you are under Salinger’s (and Seymour’s) spell, the weird, rambling elegy that is “Seymour: An Introduction” is catnip; if you are not, you may find yourself stuffing this book down the garbage disposal.
