In the middle of this book and have woke up my 4 month old several times because I was laughing out loud....glad to see other "sinners" are enjoying it as well....can't wait to see where it is going.
I loved this book, it made me bust a gut just about every page, or at least snicker madly. The first of Moore's books that I've read, and he has me hooked. However, I was struck by it's human depth, and the moments of pathos, sorrow, and compassion that balanced the humor, and enriched the story. I especially loved the exchanges between Raziel and Biff when they were in the hotel room together. Biff makes a wonderful, and suprisingly, sympathetic, likeable, narrator that clearly speaks with great affection of his best pal the Messiah. I highly recommend it to anyone, Christian or not. This made me a fan of Moore's, and I've been on a mission to track down all his other titles. He's a very talented writer, and I can honestly say Lamb is one of the best books I've ever read.
One of the funniest books I have ever read
I just got this book yesterday from a colleague. I read one page of Chapter 1 before lunch. After I stopped laughing enough to talk again, I almost opted out of our lunch plans to read. Instead, she came by later in the afternoon for a break and asked me to read something funny to her. Nice to share a laugh during the work day! This book - what I've read of it so far - is a riot.
The best Chrismas gift I ever bought myself-- funny and irreverent. It reminds us all that life shouldn't be taken so seriously. Laughter is truly divine, as Moore so eloquently wrote.
Clever, well written, and not entirely imaginary (I smell references to the Apochrypha, which, having been a religion major, I should have read 40 years ago). It's a great romp. Lots of laughs with a layer of seriousness, too.
Absolutely hysterical! Christopher Moore has an amazing talent! I really did giggle out loud!
Mine just arrived!!
Can't wait to read it!!
I agree with Jesskat, the fart and sex commentary got old quick but the book went on forever. I agree Moore can write but I wanted to know more about Biff's pal and not Biff. That was the point of waking him from the dead wasn't it? I can appreciate why some readers enjoyed it. Me, I got bored. Too bored to finish it.
This book made me laugh out loud! Fabulous!
Loved the book and passed it around to others...to the point that I have to buy another one. One of the funniest books I've ever read. Jew-jitsu...LOLOL
For those of you who liked this book, another of the same ilk but even funnier is "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. It's an hilarious rewrite of the Apocalypse, irreverent and laugh-out-loud!
Great choice! Although Good Omens is much, much better. I read it right before this book, and had the hardest time getting into Lamb - mainly because where Gaiman and Pratchett surprise and catch you off guard, Moore seems like he's trying too hard to be witty. I hate to say it, as I did enjoy the book, but the style of writing almost reminds me of the new marketing campaigns trying to be familiar or informal - things like what's written on Burger King drink cups. Overall, I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't read Good Omens first, but it is good and worth reading. Anyone thinking of reading both, though, should definitely read this one first.
No comments in 2 years? It's sad no one is reading this. It's funny touching clever & in the end succeeds brilliantly @ showing us a human siden to Jesus.
i agree with john s. this is the best book i've ever read! i "lol-ed" almost every single page. moore is such a great man. love his work!!!!!!
Jeez, more people really need to read this book! Lamb is brilliant in so many ways; to me, its a perfect blend of outlandish humor, wit, and enough human vulnerability to make even an atheist/agnostic such as myself feel connected in some way to Josh's (and Biff's!) plight.
In the end, it would've been nice to discover how Biff would've handled modern living... But I can forgive that. I loved Lamb, and still reread it every once in a while [3
absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!! i love these books! christopher moore is a comedy genius. this is by far my favorite of his books and can't wait to read it again and again
