The story is told from the perspective of Biff (Levi), Christ's childhood friend. He is brought back to life to write the missing chapters of Jesus' life, namely from the ages of 6-30. It is a hilariously-written, tongue-in-cheek novel that paints Jesus as a real person. The story is largely about their friendship, and Biff's unseen, supporting role as buddy, and essentially keeper of the Mesiah.

Sweet. Respectful. Illuminating. Laugh out loud funny. This really took Moore up a notch for me. This is more than a brilliant premise. It is a well-researched, fully developed investigation into the "life of Christ." Everyone should keep an open mind and read this. And do unto others . . .

One of the funniest books I have ever read. Also, it is wonderful to learn about the missing 27 years of Jesus.

After 2000 years, Biff was resurrected from dust by the Angel Raziel. Who is Biff??? Well, he was Jesus' childhood best pal...
and he happens to know everything.

In America, while Raziel indulges himself with TV soap operas and pizzas, Biff is under house arrest (at a Hyatt Hotel in St. Louis to be exact) until he finish writing the untold 30-years of the Christ's life on Earth. Although innocent of the existence/printing of the Holy Bible, Biff vividly recalls everything- from their childhood; their journey across the continent to find the three wise men who visited Joshua (Jesus translation in Hebrew) from his birth; to Joshua's struggle in becoming the predicted Messiah; until the inevitable crucifixion.

I enjoyed this book immensely. A reprieved from the catastrophe our country just went through. Although the author was sometimes crude in illustrating Biff's sexual escapades, the biblical background was nonetheless true.

His ability to grab a sacred subject and apply witty humor into it is a great example of Moore's brilliance. A wonderful read that will stay with me for a long time. I recommend this book to anyone in much need of humor indulgence, but those with religious background and upbringing should appreciate this a lot more than those who has none.

Keep the faith and read your Bible everyday!

Hilarious book, that is if you're not fanatically religious.

DIDN"T FINISH IT. Makes you think about Jesus' life as a child, but not a fan of making fun of the Messiah! As far as being a comedy though, I did like it.

Have a sense of humor and a good background in the Catholic faith? Then you should most definitely read this! Biff, Jesus' best friend and UNMENTIONED disciple, tells the fifth gospel, answering the question of what happened to Jesus between his unannounced trip to the temple (as a young boy) to where the the other gospels find him in adulthood.

If you like gospel or know somewhat of the gaps in the story of Jesus Christ, you'll love the crap out of this hilarious rendition by Christopher Moore. Spoiler alert: The ending is somewhat sad. Heart-wrenching, almost.
