I loved this book! It is definitely a VERY creative story regarding the childhood of Jesus. Some might find it to be offensive, but I thought it was inspiring to think of Christ as a "real" human being. So often we put the life of Jesus on a pedestal because of what we know of him during his...

I'm a big fan of this laugh out loud funny author but I think this book is the jewel in the crown of his titles. I have laughed myself into tears over some of the contents of this one and force dramatic readings of excerpts on my friends.

I read this when it first came out years ago and felt the need to reread. My first thought three chapter in is that Chris Moore is going to hell. No purgatory for you; it's a direct flight. however, through the irreverent jokes and profanity lies some interesting questions regarding faith and belief especially the question of those who have seen and heard and yet still don't believe.
The book is about Biff, Jesus' best bud who follows Jesus everywhere. Granted it's a complete work of fantasy, but there are moments Moore nails the essence of Christ's teaching.
Be warned if you do decide to read - if the Life of Brian or The Last Temptation offended you then your head will explode with this one so avoice it. however, if you a sense of humorr and can look for the Holy in just about anything take the plunge.

If you love blasphemy, which I do you will love this. Follow Jesus and Biff along life and hear how Jesus listens to Biff doing the Horizontal mambo and lives vicariously through him. They learn Kung Fu, Buddhism, and plenty of tricks of the trade.

Great creative humorous retelling of the New Testament without being disrespectful. Moore's best work.

Didn't think I'd like this, but it was not the sarcastic account of Christ's life that I thought it would be. Actually well researched, and the author is very specific about what he took liberties with and what he tried to remain true to - he's right that there is very little written about Christ's early years, and his account is really funny as well as thought-provoking. It was not irreverent at all, although a tried and true bible-thumper might not like it. A book you might want to pick up and read to judge for yourself. I actually learned a bit about how things probably were culturally during the time period. Some fun word-play, something I always like.

Moore explores the humanity of Christ (and the 30 years that the Gospels don't account for) in such a way that even the staunchest of atheists will roll around on the floor laughing.

This book is like a biography of Jesus' life between the time when he was a little boy and when he was thirty--except it isn't exactly true. Christopher Moore does a great job in imagining what life was like for Jesus (Josh) but throws in humor that will keep you reading.
