I can't believe that it took me so many years to get to this book, and now that I have finally read it, I can't believe all the hoopla. The writing was great, but as a story, where is the POW? Very disappointed.

This book is about coming of age. It is about a 13 year old girl, nmaed Dolores Price who is overweight and doesnt really have friends. She is made fun because her appearance and lack of friends. Her child hood was ruined by her parents who couldnt get along, they seperated when she was young and now she lives with her depressing mother. This book can make you cry, laugh and feel sympathy all at the same time.

Delores Price's life is mixed with child neglect, rape, bullying, obesity, mental illness, an abusive marriage and regret. How could one young woman's life ever turn around. Delores fights her way through the mental illness, forgives her mother and grandmother, and focuses on all that is good in life. Her life does not proceed as planned, but her friendships and loves are the things that, in the end, carry her through life's ups-and-downs.

I read this book in Highschool- maybe I should try to re-read it because the first time I read it I thought it was not that great.
