“The ending was inevitable. The wealthy woman could never betray her son-in-law, and certainly not for a servant, regardless of how faithful she was, because that would mean betraying her life as she knew it. All she had left was her daughter, son-in-law, and a new baby to welcome. After years in a miserable marriage, she felt she had been rewarded finally. There was no way for her to confront the reality that her son-in-law was no better then the husband that beat her all those years! Sad, but a realistic ending. ”
“what did you think of the ending?”
“Wonderfully written novel about the intersection of two women who have spent most of their adult lives together but in a see-sawed relationship with one wielding more control over the outcome of the other. Excellent read that I will purchase now.”
“What a great book. The way the women's stories were paralleled was really powerful. I will definitely look for more books by this author.”
“Good book, I enjoyed it. I learned a lot about the cultural differences that affected the women”
“Beautifully written story about two women in India who come from different classes, but who both struggle with life. A must read.”
“I agree with you, Jenika. I felt it ended abruptly also we never really got to know what happened next to Sera or to Bhima. ”
“I loved reading this book. The story was interesting, the characters were well developed and the plot was plausible. It is written very simply, but the observations the author makes are very sophisticated. I found the cultural descriptions of life in Inda, fascinating. The characters relationships are complicated, but make sense given the culture they live in. I think it is an excellent book and that it will facillitate interesting group discussions. ”
