Superb analysis of the "Great Powers". Kennedy covers it all: economics, culture, geography, politics, the military, and more to explain why the 17th-20th Centuries happened the way they did. Unparalleled in anything similar I've read before or since.

Dense, but an insightfull analysis of the economic reasons behind the rise and fall of empires.

A little like wading through mud, but you begin to get the picture as you slog on. Once Kennedy has connected the dots between military conflict and financial power for you, you'll realize just how screwed we are thanks to the ignorance and arrogance of Bush and Co.

This book was interesting and worth reading even though I found its central argument quite unconvincing.
