“I honestly didn't like it that much. It is well-written, no doubt. But the author just keeps telling the reader that if the reader doesn't like sad stories, he/she should put it down right away. It just kinds of ruins the story for me. If I'd read through the story without those, it would've been much better 'cause I would feel the Baudelaire's sadness and all that. When I come across with one of those "notes", it's like "could you just get on with it?!". No offense to anyone though, it's just my opinion.”
“I really like that about his books because the little kids who read them get to learn a lot of "grown-up" words and colloquial phrases. Kids love it when they know big words and can use them. LS seems to intentionally want to expand the vocabularies of his young readers and I admire that. Plus, it's fun to read the examples he gives to explain the words.”
