A comical group of women gather regularly for lunch and prayers. It's a fine example of how we become entagled with people that we might otherwise pass right by.

It was an okay book. The story was going along fine and then at several points in the book, the authors veered off course with some religious talk, which I felt did not fit in well with the story line at all. It was like the meat of the novel was written, and then the religious stuff was thrown...

I am planning to read all the other books in that series. I really liked the ladies from Summit View!

It was an okay book. The story was going along fine and then at several points in the book, the authors veered off course with some religious talk, which I felt did not fit in well with the story line at all. It was like the meat of the novel was written, and then the religious stuff was thrown in as an afterthought to make this book seem Christian-y. I had the other novels in the series on my "plan to read" list, but have removed them. I liked the overall story, but the religious detours were very distracting.

This book reflects how so many Christians really behave... unchristian. It's almost humorous until I realized that I saw a lot of "me" in some of these ladies. The unkind thoughts and comments, the back-biting and jealousy of other Christians. But also the love that binds us together in difficult times. This is a down-to-earth-how-people-really-are-heartwarming book.

I truly enjoyed the characters. I have recently found a liking for christian fiction, and this was a great read. I have read two of the first three and am now on number three.

We reviewed this as part of the Christian Writers Forum Missing Pages Book Club and were amazed at how both authors worked together so well and wrote a book written with multiple points of view. Each character is so distinct and rich, I went on and read the whole series to get to know them better. I enjoyed this very much, and the recipes are a great bonus!

I never just pick up books off the Library shelf, but somehow, a while a go, this one caught my eye and sounded relatively clean, and so I took a chance. I actually read ‘A Troubles A Brewing’ (not listed on Shelfari), which is the Second book in the series first. It was an easy read, and I thought the recipes in the back were so cute, (I actually copied them down to try out). I went back and read ‘The Potluck Club’ next (which is the first one), which was still cute, but I didn’t care for as much. ‘The Potluck Club’ had a lot more Christian/(Born Again?) undertones, but that makes sense, considering it is based around a church Pot Luck club. I just found the second one more enjoyable- with the first novel, of course, you have to establish characters, etc… where it seems with the 2nd and 3rd, you can just dive into the story. I read the third one ‘The Potluck Club: Takes the Cake’ and enjoyed it as well. I hope they come out with a fourth sooner rather than later. (The stories of these women seem to parallel what most people have to go through in real life, and so they do talk about cheating husbands, etc… I don’t think they were abrasive to offend the majority of people, but some really sensitive readers might be put off.) Someone else had posted that they found the books difficult to follow at first since they go in chapters labeled under each person, and their point of view, and either plot or side of the story. Once I figured out how the book was formatted, it made a lot more sense.

A little hard to follow at first, because it tells aspects of the same events from the points of view of the 5 (?) main characters. But it all works out in the end.
