good read mainly but must take it with a pinch of salt and take in mind the author's agenda after all musharraf was still in power when he wrote this.

Watching Sunday morning talk shows discuss foreign affairs resembles listening in to firemen chatting. They might disagree with one another, but their lives have basically been shaped by the same experiences. That is why it is important to read books like In the Line of Fire by Pervez Musharraf. He is a tough soldier who has survived politics and brutal enemies to rise to the leader of Pakistan. He has some of the same enemies as the United States but he knows that he has to live with them. It will not serve to kill as many as possible and then go away. Musharraf might be a dictator to some, but the army's control of Pakistan is not absolute. He needs to negotiate and compromise with local powers. While not religious, he understands the power of Islam among his nation. There is a great interview with Musharraf promoting his book with Jon Stewart.

I have read one or two chapters of this book and stopped. It is full of self praise. The only thing I got from the book was his side of the story in some the controversies he was involved in majorly the one with Nawaz Sharif.

it was good informative book, regarding near past happenings in politics and it was also good mystery novel and if you like mystery novels, you would love the chapters where he explains in detail how Pakistan's intelligence services tracked down and then arrested a number of most wanted terrorists. It's literally a day-by-day and in some cases (like the chapter on his military coup) a minute-by-minute detail of events. Once you pick it up, you won't be able to put it down.
Although he tries to project a soft image of pakistan to forien readers regarding terorismactualy this bookis mainly written for the international readers,to tell them that pakistan is doing his best in fighting terrorism.he try to convince the world about his remarkable work against terorism and tells the readers that what we get and lost in this war, what i feel while reading this book is that he is working hard for his self permotion

Gives good insight into Pakistan's ruling class.
Musharraf never stops praising himself throughout the book.

this is a book with no reality. President Pervez has showed himself as a patriot. while the case is different. many of chapters are based on illusions. one of his chapters deal with the controversy with Prime Minister. that particular chapter has been disused in thousands of different book as the biggest fake of this book. pervez is not a patriot, he is a dictator. this book has depicted him as a true humanitarian but the real scores say something else. i think this book shouldn't be categorize as a memoir rather a political fiction with lot of stupid jokes in it.

Mediocre and repetitive. Clearly Musharraf is proud of his military service, his contribution to the fight against al Qaeda, the revival of the economy in Pakistan, and his involvement in a border skirmish with India that nearly led to nuclear war.

Let no one be mistaken, though, Musharraf did not come to power in a coup, but in a 'counter-coup' against a prime minister who tried to replace him. At least, that's his side of the story.

Shockingly, he says (in a jocular way) that he hopes Osama bin Laden is not caught in Pakistan, since that would just confirm the all-too-believable rumors that Osama is being given sanctuary in his country.

A book written by an intellectual shows the writer's strength and indepth thoughts of how to deal and fight at different fronts. This is only Pervez Musharraf who can handle all the matters internally and externally, the todays need is to extend our hands of cooperation so that our country economy grow and we live peacefully. The strikes and longer march can only push the country backward, hinderance in progress and obstacle in the way of peaceful living... Our leaders who have been elected for the government should not waste money in visiting Europe, UK, USA etc. instead they stay in the country and concentrate in the economic growth and resolve todays' inflation.
