“George Elliot's The Mill on the Floss is, in so many ways, is like a Jane Austen novel; it's subject matter is soooooo Jr High, yet written wiith the wisdom and intelligence of someone we'd assume to be far beyond making such a big deal of such matters. Perhaps both George and Jane wrote for the purpose of instructing young girls on proper ethics, and how to be more sensitve to their treatment of other people. I can't imagine that she wrote them to be entertaining to adults. ”
