Another great Buchanan novel. Walker is my favorite brother and his love interest was a good woman with a five year old daughter. Susan Mallery writes good emotional conflict that keeps you interested.

Book 2 in Mallery's series about the Buchanan family. The hero is the middle brother who escaped nasty grandma by joining the Marines. Now he's out and on a mission to find the girlfriend of a boy in his squad who died. All he has is a first name, and that she was in high school with the young man somewhere in Seattle. The heroine is a single mom who lives upstairs (or maybe downstairs) from the hero. He involves himself in her life when he helps her with a flat tire. Neither one wants anything resembling a relationship, but he finds it hard to turn down homecooked meals offered as payback for his help. She can't accept help without needing to repay it... Nasty grandma gets put in the hospital and hero is arm-twisted into helping out with the family company. Heroine has a nasty ex who turns up to cause trouble and gives the hero a chance to act manly. It's just a lovely, engaging story. Liked it muchly.

Unbeknownst to me prior to reading it, this book is the second of a series that explores different members of the Buchanan family. The wealthy Buchanan family owns several well-regarded restaurants in the Seattle area and everyone is under the thumb of the matriarch, that is until her grandson, Walker, retires from the military and moves back to Seattle to ponder the next phase of his life. Fate leaves him in charge. Meanwhile he finds himself falling for his downstairs neighbor, a single mother who is as reluctant to be a part of a relationship as he.

I came across this book while searching one of Audible.com's sales. I was looking for highly rated unabridged romance titles that were not already recorded and available through the Library of Congress Library for the Physically Handicapped. While somewhat predictable in plot there were some nice steamy bits and the characters were interesting. I'll definitely check out the other books in the series.
