I bought this book to read The Destructors as mentioned in Donnie Darko. I am reminded of a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson when I think about the Destructors: "A man builds a fine house; and now he has a master, and a task for life; he is to furnish, watch, show it, and keep it in repair, the rest of his days." I think Graham Greene is attempting to remind people that they are slaves to their possessions, even their homes.
