Fang Kattalakis, a Katagarian wolf, finds himself attracted to Aimee, a (Arcadian-in-hiding) bear. He knows he cannot act on it, since Aimee's family would lose their seat on the Omegrion and she would be disowned. Meanwhile, someone is attacking Sanctuary - they find it's Eli Blakemore, who blames them for the death of his son. Aimee tries to protect Wren, and Fang goes to help, unintentionally drawing attention to his pack. Blakemore orchestrates an attack on Fang's pack, and his pregnant sister dies before the cubs are born. Markus casts Vane and Fang out of the pack, leaving them to die at the hands of the Daimons. Fury, their brother (in hiding), calls Sanctuary and Fang languishes in a coma there for months. He's stuck in between worlds, because Daimons have consumed not all of his soul. He reaches out to Vane in a dream, but Vane thinks he's hallucinating, so it's up to Aimee to kill the Daimons and release the bits of his soul. Fang eventually wakes up, but his place in the pack has been taken up by Fury, and Vane blames him for not wanting to come back.
Meanwhile, the Omegrion meets and Sanctuary loses its license, for which Mama Bear Peltier blames Aimee and Fang. Savitar also blames Fang for the deaths of various humans (actually dying because of demons). Fang gives himself up to save his brother, who has been ordered to bring him in, and in such a selfless act, he is able to exorcise the demon that he accidentally took up when he tried to destroy it as per Thorn's orders.
Fang and Aimee finally mate, and Aimee goes back to Sanctuary to show her parents. Sanctuary is under attack though, as it's lost its license and Blakemore wants revenge. Nicolette dies to save Fang, and Aubert dies with her (the two were bonded). Fang and Aimee rebuild Sanctuary and begin running it themselves.

It is that inner essence or drive, if you will, that we all have that guides us through our lives. Sometimes those voices that drive us are whispered memories that live deep inside and cause us such pain that we have no choice except to let it out and to hurt those around us. But at other times, the voice is love and compassion, and it guides us to a gentler place. In the end, we, alone, must choose what path to walk. No one can help us with it.”Highlighted by 14 Kindle customers
