It will be difficult for those that read the bible in a literal way, but there was a lot of power in the thoughts it generated for me.” see full review » see other reviews » |
Didn’t Like It“I did not enjoy the book. Either the prose or the translation was entirely droll.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Read the first & last 150 pages... a highly creative take on the life of Jesus Christ. Don't believe the hype - nothing sacreligous about this book.”

For me the reading itself was a pleasure. The language also wonderful.”
“A near-masterpiece. I found Kazantzakis' depiction of Christ plausible and compelling, and his knowledge of the Bible is quite substantive. Here, Christ resembles the profit Jonah who went out of his way to run away from God's assignment, only to submit at last and fulfil his mission. Christ as The Son of Man is sympathetic and relatable. I highly recommend this rather large book.”

Believer or not, trying to imagine the psychological effect of realizing that your death is the answer to everything must be nauseating. Great story.”
