    I can see why you would think that. I dont tyhink its down to the translation though. Its a conscious choice of Murakami to write in the style of a screenplay as opposed to his usual prose. I agree that it does not feel the same and to a degree isnt as enjoyable as his regular fare. If you havent read Wind Up Bird Chronicle then would highly reccomend that to you.
