This book is about women empowerment – through their natural nurturing instincts, mothers have the ability to instill a positive attitude in the lives of their loved ones through the various roles of being a teacher, coach, and counselor. The book offers a wealth of wisdom, practical living skills, and effective communication techniques. From My Mama’s Kitchen reveals the power of relationships, the nature of love, and the meaning of life Johnny’s 9 moms equipped him with, in a kitchen setting. From the virtue of spiritual awareness to self-actualization, Johnny’s 9 moms nourished him with recipes for living to become a person defined by his thoughts and actions.

Paying tribute to mothers everywhere in an entertaining, inspiring, and educational way, this book also serves as a wonderful backdrop for everyone to reflect and rekindle their own memories of their moms as it stirs up those long forgotten heartfelt moments.

Adopted at birth in Malaysia and later moving to the United States to attend college, Johnny Tan’s life journey led him to cross paths with various women who he admiringly refers to as “Mom.”

What I have learned from my 9 moms –

“Respect the past, because it is a classroom for lessons learned. Be prepared for the future, because it is my destiny.

Always live in the now, because every moment is a memorable experience.” - Johnny Tan

Designed as a keepsake for all occasions, meant to last and inspire forever, From My Mama’s Kitchen – “food for the soul, recipes for living” includes a blank dedication page for readers to inscribe their own loved one’s name, and a space where readers can write the various recipes for living they wish to record for all time. Johnny have also included nine of his favorite food recipes at the end of the book.

Quotes edit see section history

  • “Throughout our life’s journey, we will continue to gain and encounter new experiences. Some experiences good or bad, will stay with us for the rest of our life. It is how we manage them that will ultimately determine our idea of success or failure in both our personal and professional life.”

First Sentence edit see section history

Although all my moms have different ethnic backgrounds and grew up in different parts of the world and the United States, they all have one thing in common; they all belong to the same generation. Each one grew up in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and was familiar with less-advanced early kitchen devices, which I call the wood-burning stove era. However, what may seem primitive to us today was the technology of their time. Food was cooked three times daily, and everything was prepared from scratch and with fresh ingredients.
