I have to confess that this is not how I thought Persephone's story would be.
I used to believe that she was forced to live with Hades and that her mother was only trying to save her.Thats why im simply enthusiastic about this book!!!

This book was a nice, quick read that kept me entertained. It was something different than what the original Greek myth says, and I love that.

THe book is based on the Greek myth; "The Rape of Persephone." THe story is about Persephone and how she wants to get away from the protective vale her mother has kept her in. One day Hades comes to the garden and sees Persephone. On his second visit, he talks to Persephone who has never met a man before. She quickly falls in love with him. One day she decides to take up his offer and leaves with him to the underworld to be the queen on the dead.
This is a different twist of the classic myth. It tells it in a different way. That she willingly left and wasn't taken.
I liked the book. I recommend it to anyone who likes the Greek myths.

Read this over the summer. A beautiful, modern retelling of a classic greek myth. Very enjoyable.

an interesting retelling of the story of Persephone with an almost modern twist. i'm happy that she chooses to follow her heart and not obey her mother.

Have you ever fallen in love with a dark, brooding character? Then Radiant Darkness is a must read for high school kids everywhere. This book puts a twist on the classic Greek myth of Persephone’s supposed kidnapping.
Living on an island filled with women would be a prison to anybody, but it’s even more so to Persephone. If I lived on an island inhabited only by women, I would probably go crazy! Persephone’s mother Demeter, the Greek goddess of grain and harvest, believes that men should have no influence on her ever growing daughter. Then, one day while walking through the woods, an unfamiliar scent comes from the direction of the meadow. Then, to her surprise, a stranger in a flying horse-drawn carriage perfectly lands in the meadow in front of her.
Hades, god of the underworld, sees Persephone in his flight over the meadow. He instantly falls in love with her and, after visiting for a few days, gives Persephone the choice of whether to stay in the meadow as young child in her mother’s eyes, or leave with him and become the beautiful young woman he knows she is. I would definitely choose to go with Hades because he is the ultimate girl’s dreams: tall, dark, and handsome, but that wasn’t my choice to make.
Will Persephone choose to go or stay and can she live with the final outcome? Radiant Darkness reveals all, with some twists and turns along the way! I loved the book and you will too! -- Kimmy G.
