The world loves a good King Arthur story. Hello? Clive Owen aka Barebodied Hunka Burning Love in chain mail brandishing his long sword? And don’t even get me started on the weapon he fights with! Gimme some of that somethin’ somethin’! *clears throat and looks at Sheridan’s and Mimi’s pained faces*

Anyway, Kinley MacGregor’s “Sword of Darkness” is the first of the Lords of Avalon Series, where Arthur and his knights have fallen and a new dark king reigns over Camelot. Kerrigen is the dark lord, whose crown has been forged from death and destruction. To cement his power, and prevent his enemies from capturing his throne, Kerrigen has to destroy Seren, a peasant girl/ weaver who is prophesied to be the mother of the next Merlin.

Very cheesy but enjoyable. I found the mythology interesting although I didn't care for the time-traveling aspects of it. The characters were well written, the banter witty, and the storyline flowed well. There were moments when I felt the narrative was a bit long, I did overall enjoy the novel.

This book started out slow and difficult to get into. It is more fantasy than paranormal romance. It is a basic story of good vs. evil - the young maiden who sees the good in an evil man. I was actually touched by some of the writing as it progressed. I did have a hard time with the switches between modern 21st century and old English terms and language. It seemed inconsistant to me. It was an okay read; not sure if I'll read any more of the series.

In a new series by Kinley MacGregor, see what befell Camelot after the fall of King Arthur. Giving a new twist to the popular legend, this is the start to the exciting Lord of Avalon series.

After Arthur and his men's defeat at the battle of Camlann, Camelot has fallen into the hands of his evil sister, Morgen. Ruling alongside her is her champion, who holds the powerful Caliburn, the twin sword of Excalibur that can only be possessed by someone with demonic powers. Both of them want to rule the world. And the key to the ultimate power lies in the hands of a tiny woman who lives in a different realm.

All her life, Seren of York has lived in poverty. Now working in London as an apprentice weaver, she dreams of one day gaining her freedom so that she can have her own shop, marry a merchant and raise a family. Now out of the blue she finds herself in another realm, in a place she's always thought of as mythical, with everyone telling her of her important role in the battle between good and evil. She doesn't understand why she was chosen to carry the next Merlin, she, of insignificant birth, a mere peasant who only wishes to be her own woman. Now after meeting Camelot's new king, she never realized just what an important role she would play in his life.

Kerrigan only wants one thing: Arthur's Round Table. While he is initially prepared to trade Seren's life for it, it doesn't take long before he starts feeling things he's never felt before even when he was human. Seren touched something inside him; something he long thought gone - his heart, his compassion. After centuries, he finds himself laughing wholeheartedly. Her candidness brings humor to his otherwise jaded existence. And with his feelings adding complication, both their lives are now in danger.

Wow! What a great kick-off to the Lords of Avalon! SWORD OF DARKNESS certainly delivered more than I expected. I admit that I wasn't too sure about Kerrigan's character since the back cover seems to depict him as truly evil. I guess that's what makes his downfall all the more enjoyable. Seeing him fall for a plain human, who turned out to be not all that "plain", was fun to read. I loved the verbal sparring between him and Seren, and who can forget some of the secondary characters like Kerrigan's mandrake servant, Blaise, or the gargoyle Garafyn whose adventure in the twenty first century will have you laughing out loud.

Rich in humor, magic, fantasy and interesting characters, SWORD OF DARKNESS is a fast-paced novel that is sure to delight.

Sword of Darkness was OK. Seren was wholesomely good, but, thankfully, I didn't find her annoying. I actually really liked her. She had a spine and stood up for what she believed in. Kerrigan was supposed to be the Big Bad, but he wasn't. We were told he did all of these horrible things, had no compassion, blah, blah, blah, but he was a big softy where Seren was concerned and it was a bit disappointing. The plot was decent, but the story dragged in places. I kept me interested enough to want to read the next books though. 3.5 stars

Fairly horrible. I bought it because I thought the guy on the cover was hot. What can I say?

everyone knows about Auther and his knights so it was fun to see his downfall by the "hero" lol i dont know if we can call him that from the first few chapter
i liked it in general .. once you start reading you wont be able to stop
there is one thing i didnt like though .. the time traveling to the 21st centry .. i felt that it was unnessessary to include it and just stick to one centery

I like the idea of this story but it is just awkward and annoying.
