“I felt a bit disoriented at the end, but I'll credit that to time lag. Overall the book was great fun and I was onboard for a five until the last fifty pages. Although I have to admit, it's not like you can expect an author to explain the paradoxes of time travel easily, but maybe it'll clear up if I let it sit in my head a bit. Anyway, worth reading for sure.”

The characters go back in time to Victorian England, and meet a host of strange characters, while they try to find the bishops' bird stump, which no one is even entirely sure what it is. They try to figure that out while dealing with crazy people, and trying not to change the past. I have also read Three Men In A Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog), which Connie Willis has borrowed a lot from. It's interesting to see how she has weaved things into it.”

Jerome's _Three Men in a Boat_, to which Willis pays direct homage in her novel.”

Very clever and funny!!! Really good characters and crazy hilarious scenes. I ate it up!”

Love the scene of the guys bursting in on the victorian family in their parlor after sinking the boat. Cyril the dog is the best. Read this with Jerome K Jerome's book "Three Men in a Boat (to say nothing of the dog). ”

Tone is light and humorous, even though the fate of the universe may be in balance. Secondary characters are quite well developed, even more so then then the main protagonist. Love the relationship between Cyril the dog and Ned though. Storyline a bit hard to follow. Settings vary from mid to late 21st century, 1940s, and 1888 England. Unique and jaunty ride with something for everyone. ”

Very funny characters, very well written and ties into another Connie Willis book Doomsday Book, which is more serious, but just as good. That goes back to the middle ages and the dreaded plague.”
