Very good book, innovative, and with a sense of completeness in the tomorrow's portrayed.

I say I plan to read this-- despite the fact that I own it, and have read about half -- because I'm waiting for an Amazon Kindle edition to come out. I have MS, and my left arm does not work very well anymore, so reading a paperback is difficult. I much prefer the one-handed page turning of the Kindle (I saw Jeff Beezos on the daily show, by the way, and found Jon Stewart's one-handed page turning jokes very funny.)

This is one of my favorite books. It's science fiction wrtitten in the 80's, and I think it is remarkable to see how close today is to his predictions! His preview of the internet is uncanny!

David Brin projects an earth saddled with looming environmental change; rising oceans due to rising temperatures from greenhouse gasses, blistering UV thanks to ozone depletion. Scarce oil, huge population migrations, etc. A multi-faceted journey ending in a new order.

I rather enjoyed the story, at least until the end, when it crossed into fantasy territory of an emerging earthmind consciousness formed between superconducting tendrils in the core and the Internet. Nevertheless, an entertaining read.

I'll never forgive myself for reading this book all the way through... It starts with a good premise and turns to a gaia-fest.

Takes the concept of working from home to a whole new level. The future looks a bit dismal, but there's hope in finding a community on-line.

This one seems a little "impossible" at the end for a hard science book, but still a good read

One of those books that everyone should read: set on an Earth of the future, with a reasonably cheerful outlook and resolution despite the somber tone.
