  • Alexandria Hyatt: A wealthy, spoiled 15 year old girl from Brentwood California was caught stealing something clothing. Instead of going to juvenile detention she is sent to Kenya, Africa to help out with an organization called 'Child Save' for three weeks.
  • Ruth: A 15 year old chief's daughter from the Maasai tribe. The eldest of 12 children. Goes to the school that is more than a half hour walk, help with the cooking at home and also go fetch water from a water hole. She befriends Alexandria and helps her understand the customs of the Maasai.
  • Renée: Alexandria's contact from 'Child Save'. Has blond hair and speaks the Swahili language very well. She is to evaluate Alexandria's progress in Africa.
  • Nebala: A guide and guard. Is traditionally dressed and is a Maasai warrior, having killed several lions. He also likes and has watched some Star Trek episodes.
  • Sarah: A volunteer that came along with nine other kids from her church's Youth Group. Befriends Alexandria pretty quickly.
  • Christina: A third year university student with a scholarship came to volunteer and also learn about the traditions of these native people. She tends to be cocky. Ends up being Alexandria's roommate.
