Petey Corbin is a man born with cerebral palsy (a syndrome that affects motor skills). He was born in 1920 and in that day they didn’t know what cerebral palsy was, so Petey was diagnosed as an idiot (they literally called mentally retarded people idiots). Due to this, Petey grew up in a mental hospital. Petey didn’t meet very many people, but who he did meet, he had great relationships with. The first person he meets is Esteban, who is a worker at Warm Springs, where Petey lives. Esteban defends Petey and then gets fired. Since Petey didn’t know anyone, he became friends with the mice. Petey let them climb on his wheel chair and his food scraps. Later on, they are killed with rat poison. Then Petey meets Calvin. Calvin is mildly retarded but has severe club feet. Calvin and Petey become great friends throughout Petey’s life. Throughout Petey and Calvin’s friendship they also met Joe, Cassie, and Owen. One day Petey is transferred to a nursing home in Bozeman, Montana and is forced away from Calvin. Then Petey meets, Trevor Ladd. Trevor does many great things for Petey like taking him fishing or taking him on walks. Trevor notices that Petey needs a new wheelchair. Trevor saves up 2000 dollars to get one for Petey. Then Trevor finds out about Petey, Calvin and Owen all being old friends and reunites them after over 20 years apart.
