“Though by no means exceptional fantasy literature, "The Longing Ring" highlights some of the most intriguing aspects of the Earthdawn scenario, introducing the reader to a highly unique twist of the dungeon crawler genre.
As somebody who is familiar with the roleplaying game, I could not help noticing how the geography in this novel seems to be more than a little... off, with the protagonist basically visiting most of the famous sites on the continent in short succession even though they lie in vastly different directions.
I also could not quite ignore just how awful the drawings in this book were. They looked as if I could have drawn them - and considering that I cannot draw at all, that tells you all you need to know.
All that criticism notwithstanding, "The Longing Ring" is solid entertainment. and a good introduction to one of the most underrated roleplaying games of the last two decades.”
