I don't think that makes the book totally irrelevant, but one might need to have patience for the elements of historical fiction to truly enjoy it. Liza is a typical...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“This book is an authentic, powerful, descriptive and emotional story about falling in love. The characters happen to be two women-girl in high school, named Liza and Annie. This book sends a powerful message to everyone whether straight or LGBT to be true to yourself. It is worth it to do this, even though it is hard and you will face obstacles.”

I understand the time it was written was completely different as far as acceptance goes, but I found my blood boiling that the reactions were as they were and that it seems as though nothing was done to combat those opinions. I felt as though the protagonist was a pushover and and that it doesn't necessarily lend to giving young people a strong opinion to take away from it. The only great thing a modern person could take from it is that this has been happening for ages, and now we are lucky that people are more accepting. ”

The story is about two young girls who fall in love and face all the challenges that go along with teenage love. How the girls families and and friends react when they learn of their relationship is very realistic. I would recommend this book to high school social workers.”

I read through it very quickly and enjoyed every minute of it. I especially loved the ending, but I will not spoil it for other readers!”

At the time it must have caused quite the stir, but nowadays and without controversy, it leaves you with somewhat bland characters who are defined by their love for each other, but nothing more. Not to mention a very long-winded plot, sidetracked by irrelevance. Stll, 3 stars for Nancy Garden's bravery at the subject matter.”
