“I would have expected the series to wane a bit after the finish of the huge tale of the war with the Adversary, but I was surprised by the unexpected turn of events brought on by peacetime. The new "villian" is more than chilling, and status quo for the residents of fabletown changes considerably...”see full review » see other reviews »

The Fables are recovering from the recent war, but there is another evil being coming for them. Fabletown is threatened and the Fables need to find someplace to go where they will all be safe.
In my opinion, this was one of the better volumes. I don't often "like" the villains, but this one is done really well, so I guess it's the closest I can come to liking a villain - or at least finding the villain somehow appealing and making the story more enjoyable, anyway. As always, there are a few side stories, as well, that are quite good in this volume. Really, really liked this one! ”
“Issue 76 - Calm and lazy, after the war. Nothing special. I wonder where this will go, eventually, since it hasn't stopped yet. Didn't like the art for this issue either.
Issue 77 - Another lazy leeway into a new plotpoint. Though the box part is very interesting indeed...
Issue 78 - Now I see where they're going with this. This looks interesting :)
Issue 79 - This Mr. Dark fellow is pretty creepy. The stakes are rising...
Issue 80 - Worried about Boy Blue...
Issue 81 - Wow. I didn't expect it to end that way. But it seemed to happen too soon for it to have a larger effect. The cover of this issue is gorgeous.
Issue 82 - A decent ending to this story arc. I am dreadfully curious as to what the Fables Crossover is. And I'm curious with the talk about important Fables coming back.
Overall - Rather unsatisfactory in comparison to the arc before it. But how could you really beat a war? I suppose the Fables storyline is heading in a new direction that will eventually reach a great climax just like the war.”

“Pretty dark story, with an interesting new villain. While not as good as previous arcs (the artwork was a bit hit or miss this time), this seemed like a good setup for a much grander epic. I hope the next trade picks up the story right away, rather than going in a different direction.”ComicBookMarks wrote this review Friday, September 25, 2009. “Bill Willingham starts his next arc with giving us glimpse into the next threat to the Fables lives in the Mundy world. He adds a Fritz Leiber homage while he's at, well I think he means it more as homage than pastiche. We get another unexpected death, one that hurts even more than the one in the previous volume.”Alan B wrote this review Monday, September 21, 2009. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? “Appears to be another volume of transitional stories.”Dina wrote this review Friday, September 11, 2009. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“After the last installment of Fables, I was worried about where the story would go, since it seemed to have found an end. Willingham, being the genius that he is, has found a new villain with even darker intentions, and has managed to shake things up in the world of our favorite fables yet again. In this volume, the new threat makes itself know, and the fables have to relocate. An important members of the fables case is lost (or is he?), and the mission to re-take the homeland is set underway. It ended on such a cliff hanger, that I'm annoyed that the next volume won't come out for several months now.
A great read. I adore this series.”
