Just started listening to this book on cd. I enjoyed Pillars so much that I was really excited when I heard about this one.

I'm loving this book. Am about 1/4 the way through. =) I'm enjoying this book more than I enjoyed the first, but overall, I really liked them both. Real page turner for me.

I know that Ken Follett is a very good writer; I have read one of his other books, but, for some reason, I tried to read this one twice, and I just couldn't get into it. My husband has read it, and he says it was very good.

I just started reading the 3rd part and I do like it so far. I'm anxious to find out how the plot changes for Caris and Merthin. I remember being more emotionally involved at this point in Pillars, but it is gripping anyways. For me it is another "can't-put-down" experience, so far.

I just can't get into this one..violent deaths, structural disasters galore and men constantly wondering what the breasts look like under those tunics...funny, though, liked Pillars much better..granted I'm not done..maybe I'll get into the book soon...

I thought this book was better than Pillars, but I can see how it would be boring. I think it wasn't so much about the editing (although I did tend to mentally rewrite some of the sentences) as much as it was the lack of a central character. Who was the protagonist around whom all the events take place? Hard to tell. No unifying thread, except for the building itself, and inanimate objects aren't as "gripping" as humans.

I am about 1/3 of the way through. I think he could have used a better editor for this one. The whole story about Godwin becoming pryor was too slow for me, and I'm finding lots of the other plot points to be that way as well. I don't know yet, but it feels like he is spending the first part of the book setting up scenarios that will be needed later in the book, and I'm getting bored. Also, there are so many names - I had a hard time keeping them all straight! I loved Pillars of the Earth, so I will stick this one out...for now.
