“Her historical detail is amazing on subjects as diverse as dyeing cloth, the politics of the pope, shipping and commerce, etc.
The threads of the story line, from the 1st book through the 8th, are impeccably complex - almost too much so at times for me! But very dynamic and thoroughly enjoyable to read.”
“After the fearful stress N has been under throughout Unicorn Hunt - I really shouldn't say why in case someone reading this review hasn't read UH, hero Nicholas has at least achieved the most important need that had been driving him in UH. Whether the reader is happy with how he achieves this is controvesial - a typical DD cliffhanger to yet again make her readers partisan over her characters. I certainly was not please with Nicholas's methods! But that makes no difference to the story because whether you are pleased or not, you will be into yet another adventure with Mediaeval businessman Nicholas as this time he makes off to Iceland which in those days was somewhat unknown due the rules of the Hanseatic League. No matter. Nicholas like others, for example from England, ignores the League's rules and goes to find out what there is in Iceland that might be of benefit to himself. You'll not be too surprised if you've read UH to learn his young friend Katelijne follows him to Iceland.....
But Nicholas is also up to something far more momentous than just looking around Iceland and Iceland has been a diversion whilst his other plans set in motion.....”
