Merton's journey began in the bohemian art world, moved through the intellectual heights of pre-war New York and finally to a Trappist monastery. A beautiful story of reason leading to faith and faith sharpening reason. A book to re-read just to see where you are on your own spiritual journey.”

It is a fascinating look at a man who was raised by liberal and non-religious parents in the early 20th century and the journey that brings him from a firmly secular mindset, he talks about attending Communist meetings, into a very spiritual one, his conversion.”
