I found the book well written and the characters colorful. I would not feel comfortable recommending it to my friends though, due to some rough language content. Since it is a coming of age book, of sorts, Chen resorts to using rough street language during his teen years. I find this confusing, as he is Chinese, and I don't think such words translate well?? Life during the Chinese Cultural Revolution was almost impossible for middle class people. His grandfather was a landlord, therefore the...
