A rather memorable book I think, well perhaps rather memorable characters in a somewhat forgettable book. Is that possible even? I’m not sure. A study of four quite different people who work together in an office in London in the 1970s. They are all quite alone, but not particularly lonely. Easily readable, and strangely compelling given the characters- nondescript people one would pass in the street without even noticing.

Interesting book about 4 retirees in the 70s in England. Generated a good discussion on the Book Group List and while some people didn't like the book there were a lot who did. I found the book to be sort of like a window into the past. No reknown folks in this one, just 4 ordinary ones. Lots of talk about food, which reminded me of Dad and Ethel. In an awful way this book was about life and what you do with it. 2 of the 4 characters have interests outside of work that helps to sustain...
