I really enjoyed this book. It was a great story, and also fascinating to learn about the customs and culture of ancient China. This was the first Lisa See book I have read, and I look forward to reading her other books.

Jsut started it but am already spellbound by See's use of language and story.

This book concerns a woman who fantasizes her destiny, and then actually lives it, much to her sorrow.

I am glad I read this book after Snow Flower. There is a short piece in it about foot binding. Had I not had an education in it, it might have weirded me out.

I found this book to be good and worth reading. It was clearer than Snow Flower and I think I got all the important points. I marked a few passages to write down later.

With Peony as the character's name from See's book, Snow Flower, I was expecting a continuation of the sage. However, i was pretty disappointed. Had I read this before Snow Flower, perhaps I would have liked it better. I would recommend her newest- Shanghai Girls.

This one is more of a ghost story than Snow Flower. I almost skipped it because I'm not big on love stories.

sad but still engulfing. It brings back the past to the future, unfolds the truth of china's old traditions and the death of peony....
