“What a struggle to finish this terrible book. I think the only thing worse than reading it is listening to the audiobook. Scott Brick is a great narrator, but at least in reading a physical book, you can skip parts, which is very difficult to do in an audiobook. I'd really like to count how many pages of the book could be taken up by just the word "1896." 1896 1896 1896 1896 repeated over and over in audio form is enough to make you scream.
I cannot believe anybody would think this is a well-written book. The dialogue sounds like it is written by a child. The "love story" is simply ridiculous - especially on the side of Elise. Richard's character is the least attractive romance figure I have ever seen in a novel - whining and weak, with absolutely nothing to offer a woman with half a brain. This book was an utter and complete waste of time. I finished it only because Stephen King raves about the author, and therefore I thought the book had to get better eventually. Wrong. I do not recommend this book to anybody.”
