The Blob That Ate Everyone (2006) (edit title/settings)

The Blob That Everyone is from the Goosebumps series. The plot goes Zack likes to write scary stories about a fictional character he created called the Blob. His friends Alex and Adam have mixed reactions about his stories. Alex loves them. Adams thinks they’re kinda lame. When day while Alex and Zack are walking home late in the evening they see that a local antique store has been hit by lightning and burned to the ground. Zack despite Alex’s reluctance decides to investigate the store. While reaching up on the shelf for a type writer he is shocked all of a sudden by a blue electric current. When he pulls down the typewriter he decides he has to have it.

He starts to image all the great stories he can type on it. Despite the fact that he has a PC and a new printer. Typically someone hears them, comes to investigate, and they hide. The women that owns the shop finds them, but surprisingly goes easy on them. Not only that she lets Zack keep the type writer and she also gives him a calligraphy pen. Cool. The next day when Adam and the twins at school play a joke on Adam and dump mice in his hear *Why the hell do these kids have mice at school?* he is feeling really upset. I mean it is ironic but then again hey my cousin is scary too and likes to watch scary flicks all the time. Go figure.

So that night he makes up with Alex. She tries to consol him but he pushes her away when they played the practical joke. He’s anxious to try out his type writer. So his dad fixes it all up and he begins to type the first sentence. It’s a dark and stormy night. Then all of a sudden it is. He types the next sentence. They’re all alone in the house. Suddenly Dad has disappered. Alex catches on what’s happening. The type writer has the power to make happen anything they type. Zack is still in doubt. So to test it they type the next sentence. Someone knocks at the door.

Now Adam is at the door only he doesn’t know how he got there. He scorns the theory about the type writer and types a sentence of his own. The blob is lurking in the basement waiting for fresh meat. Dad suddenly appears again, and they check the basement. They think they see something but it’s the curtain or something. I forget. But amazingly that sentence doesn’t happen. So I think Zacks mom sends him to the store one day and again he runs into Adam and the twins.

While he’s shopping he runs into *and this is just plain nasty* a dead cow hanging upside down in the meat section. OKAY… So he hears a voice chanting “Fresh meat! Fresh meat!” and he gets freaked. But yeah it’s just Adam. Okay so why is this guy his friend. He sounds like a class A jerk to me.

Any way he rushes home and begins to type another story about the blob on his type writer. This one is just flowing out of him and he’s typed pages when his mom comes in and tells him he forgot something and needs to go to the store again. So he goes back but he notices people are rushing more so than usual. Then he sees why. His creation has come to life. Nice description of it. The cover captures the creature PERFECTLY!
The creature starts swolling up police and Zack does the stupidest thing. He walks up to the thing and looks at it. Like it won’t eat HIM because he created it. YEAH!

So just like he wrote the thing starts to follow him home. It has eaten Adam. YAH! Alex and Zack are trapped in the room. Zack decides to write a ending to make the Blob go away. But wouldn’t you know. His keys are jammed. The Blob has now bust up in the room and has swallowed the type writer. So then he decides maybe the pen has the same power. He can write a ending but he writes a few letters and drops the pen. The Blob has now swallowed the pen. In a last attempt he decides that the power isn’t in the type writer or the pen. It’s in him. When he got shocked he now has the power to just think things and they happen.

So he thinks the Blob away. He disappears. He thinks Adam back and he shows up. Happy Ending. The next chapter the Blob is sitting around reading the story to one of his Blob friends. HE actually wrote the story. The other Blob doesn’t like the ending. He thinks the humans should have gotten eaten. The Blob that wrote the story says he’ll change it.

Wow! I gotta give this story a eight and a half. I think it was ingenious to have the Blob be the one controlling the story at the end. I truly didn’t see that coming. I liked the plot of this one since I myself am a writer. I think it’d be totally cool to have a type writer that you could type the future. I thought the visual of the Blob like Alex says in the story was very descriptive and I think the cover did a GREAT job of portraying that! The only real problems I had were with Adam. I was wondering why again was he considered a friend. Guy sounded like a butt hole. Didn’t know why Zack, even written, would want him saved. I would have left him eaten. Ah well I guess that wouldn’t be very good now would it? Another stupid moment was when Zack walked back up to the creature and then looked at in shock like “I created you.” Oh KAY. Like it wouldn’t have hesitated to eat yo butt no way. Maybe you should have written it ate everyone else BUT you! DUH!
But I really liked this book. I think it’s one of the really good ones in the series. Now THAT’S what I’m talking bout RL STEIN!
