Embraced by the Light

by Betty J. Eadie

Embraced by the Light is an inspirational map of the afterlife framed in the moment of Eadie's death, and presents a possible answer to the big question, "Why are we here?" An easy read, its subtitle could have been "The Average Person's Guide to Near-Death Experiences." Although heavily filtered through Eadie's Christian worldview, her vision of the afterlife does not include a wrathful ... (read more)

I have heard of this book from my peers when I was still in the University and my mom mentioned this once to us in the family but I just did not pay attention. One of my friends gave this book to me since I am dealing now with homebound patients. When I was reading it, my peers' and my mom's stories refreshed my memory. I said to myself, "these were the stories that I am reading now". It's inspiring and made me reflect more of our earhtly life and the eternal life. But what caught my...

I picked this book up, read it and immediately had to research her religious persuasion. As suspected, she is LDS. While most of the ideas presented in this book are based on Mormon theology, she has thrown in some New Age thoughts (and politically correct ideas) for good measure. It can definitely feel "right" for a person of LDS background, but some of it does veer from strict doctrine. I am disturbed over the possible reasons why her own religious choice is not made public. The book is...

thinking about death, sounds frightening at the first blush , going to another world was mysterious to me . after reading this book a sweet love surrounded me which made me change my previous thought about death and God... you can return to your real home by death , the home that is much more lovely and peaceful than here below.

I don't know what "the Christian perspective of the afterlife" means as that seems to vary depending on denomination but the author has a near death experience and meets Jesus, who takes her on a journey and teaches her about Spiritual laws, which seems a little esoteric compared to most Christian writing but not compared to a lot of stuff I read.

You know, I read this book at the very beginning of my Spiritual awakening, which was some 10+ years ago, so I don't recall alot of the details about the book other than I think I read it in 1 or 2 days and cried (tears of joy!) at the end. It's a beautiful story of the author's NDE. I don't really think (or recall) it being from the Christian version per say...I just know that it filled my heart with such joy after I finished it.
Sorry I can't provide more specifics! I would recommend it highly though!! If you read it, let me know what you think when you're done...have a great day!--Claire

    what is this book like?

Is this book from the Christian perspective of the afterlife, or more like different theories of what might might happen after death? I'd like to know more about it. What did you think of it?
