Super...how can a book about periods be super? Well, it's actually a bunch of uplifting stories about numerous womens first periods. I know, it doesn't sound like something you'd pick up to read but I wanted a book that I could share with my daughter when the time is right (she's 10 1/2). I...

Super...how can a book about periods be super? Well, it's actually a bunch of uplifting stories about numerous womens first periods. I know, it doesn't sound like something you'd pick up to read but I wanted a book that I could share with my daughter when the time is right (she's 10 1/2). I want her to know its not a taboo subject, its about growing up, becoming a women and allowing her to read stories that will help her understand she's not alone. Some of the stories are all too funny, and some are more serious but in the end there is such a mixture-it makes just makes you feel uplifted as a woman. A perfect book to share-mother/daughter, sister/sister, friend/friend!

Do you remember when you first got your period? These ladies do. This collection of remembrances about first periods is funny, distressing, oh-so-familiar, and it seems every other essay cites the classic tome "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret." It's also reassuring: The sisterhood is as old as time and it lives forever. For teens already "on the rag," this book can help assuage embarrassment and discomfort. As a read for pre-teens, it's too sophisticated a work for all but the most precocious. This book will get you remembering your first period and how you've lived with your monthly visitor.

Cute, fun and interesting compilation of womens stories on receiving their first periods. This book is meant to make women feel comforatble talking about their first experience becoming a woman and share them with others. My favourite stories were from a girl at an orphanage, blind woman, Indian woman, a GenY texting her experience. I've often wondered about other women's experiences on their first period and am glad I read about them.

Some inspiration from this book for when my (future) daughter(s) first receives her period are:
    -buy her flowers
-tell her of historical and biological significance
-take her out to celebrate, even throw her a party
-Prepare a "period box" to send off to summer camp with her and use this as an opportunity to talk about menstration
-Tell her about my own experience, my mothers and sisters experiences
-Buy her the "Are you there God? It's Me, Margaret." Judy Blume novel about periods
