Lord Ian Mackenzie always gets what he wants and he wants Mrs. Ackerley but Beth Ackerley has other ideas. She knows Ian is dangerous and she really ought to run the other way.

I've heard so much about this book and how wonderful Ian is but he was really scary in the beginning! He came across very Alpha and very dangerous but then you get to know him and your heart will just break... and melt for him. It was interesting to find out what he has but really hard to see what it does to him and what he went through. I LOVED how much Beth affects him and how he was willing to fight himself for her and it made me sigh every time he called her "My Beth".

Speaking of Beth...I just loved her. While she did run from Ian at first, she understood what she wanted and went after it. She is a little tenacious though and at times, I wanted to hit her upside the head. I think after all they went through, she finally got it...for the most part. I really liked how she took care of Ian and just "got him".

All the brothers were a bit intimidating and as they say "madness runs through all of them". But they do grow on you and I think all their stories will be interesting. I really enjoyed how much they looked out after each other.

They murder mystery was a bit intriguing and certainly didn't play out like I thought it would. The little twist at the end with the Inspector Fellows was a surprise as well. I'm looking forward to seeing how they all come together.

Of course, I loved the epilogue and the little surprise isn't really a surprise but it made me happy anyway. I'm definitely looking for more details on that!

On a side note, I just have to say all the sexual terms in these historicals make me giggle!

Favorite quotes:

♥ “Because when I look at you, I forget everything. I lose all track of what I’m saying or doing. I can see only your eyes.”

♥ “I love you,” he said.

Beth caught her breath, and sudden tears blurred her vision.

“Love you,” Ian repeated. His gaze bore into hers harder than Hart’s ever could hope to.

“Love you, love you, love you, love you, love you love you love you...”

♥ “My Beth,” he whispered, his breath hot on her swollen lips. “Thank you.”

“For what?” Beth couldn’t stop crying, but she smiled, her face aching with it.

“Setting me free.”
