Oddly, I’ve only read two books in the “Void” universe, this one and The Lazarus Effect.

Although kind of confusing because of the multitude of characters and perspectives, this is a great book. The conflict is not strong enough to constitute the value of the book, neither are the descriptions of the hostile environment, they just provide a peculiar setting for the dialogs with the superior entities Ship and Avata, the parts which hold the real savor of the book.

Oddly, I’ve only read two books in the “Void” universe, this one and The Lazarus Effect.

The Jesus Incident follows the Ship and his crew of human clones to the planet Pandora. As a developed AI, the Ship is essentially an artificial god, and he is rather preoccupied (to say the least) with getting people to WorShip him properly. And, of course, Herbert’s interest in the effects of stressful environments on human life overflows into this universe, much like it does in the ConSentiency and Dune universes.

Also, more prominent than in some of his other books, however, the “Void” universe includes parallels to race and race problems.

A good read, kind of leaves you hanging though. That said, it's worth trying.
