  • Lieutenant Grace "Gracie" Yates: One of the first female naval aviators, loyal to her friends and family; partial to vanilla ice cream, scary movies and skiing. Has dreamed of being a pilot since she was a little girl. Tom is her cousin.
  • Major Bruce "Striker" Stanton: Air Force Major based out of Pensacola, FL, brother of Jill. Currently a Pararescue Jumper or PJ.
  • Jill Stanton: Sister of Bruce and engaged to Tom. She is not in the military herself but has created a company to handle aspects of day-to-day living for those deployed. (watering houseplants, paying bills etc.)
  • Tom "Wolf" Yates: Grace's cousin and a Navy SEAL. Engaged to Jill.
  • Peter "Thunder" Stanford: Executive officer and US Naval Aviator.
  • Emily: Bruce's dog (a labrador) who will stay with Jill while he deploys.
  • Ben Grossel: Deceased, dated Grace for a long time and she's still mourning his loss.
  • Jim: Old man in Turkey; Jamael's grandfather
  • Scott Reece: A detective in the Norfolk, VA area and childhood friend of Bruce. He is investigating burglaries that occur in servicemen's homes shortly after they deploy. Jill sometimes is the one to discover these as she goes into her clients's homes to perform her duties.
  • Rich: A pararescue jumper who partners with Bruce on missions.
  • Heather: One of Grace's roommates on the GW.
  • Dasher: Pilot with the 720th Special Tactics Group.
  • Jamael: a young boy who's injured when an earthquake opens up a fissure in his country
  • Ellis "Patrick" Jones: Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Navy, a pilot with little experience who is stationed on the USS George Washington with Grace.
  • Joe "Bear" Baker: Navy SEAL and commander of Tom's SEAL group which has been nicknamed the "Bear Cubs"
  • Sam "Cougar" Houston: Navy SEAL who serves with Wolf on SEAL Team 9
