I like the way this book gave you insights about Marla. It's easy to keep up with everyone because you are not overloaded with characters.I will be reading the other books in this series.

When Marla's first customer of the day dies in her perming rods Marla finds herself desperate to investigate. Mrs. Kravits (gotta love the name) is a blackmailing busybody who as it turns out has more then one enemy. When Detective Vail finds out about the blackmailing he now finds the motive behind Mrs. Kravits' death and believes Marla is the murderer.
This book sets up the start of a new series nicely. The book isn't bogged down with too many characters but does shade the lines between who is good and who isn't. Marla has a past she is trying to keep secret and Det. Vail is trying to uncover it.
I thought this book was well written and quite funny in parts. The secondary characters were interesting and I hope they have more involvement in the upcoming books.

Sassy salon owner Marla Shore is giving grumpy Mrs. Kravitz a perm when the old lady croaks in the shampoo chair. If that isn’t enough to give her
a bad hair day, handsome Detective Vail suspects Marla of poisoning the woman’s coffee creamer. Figuring she’d better expose the real killer before the next victim frizzes out, Marla sets on the trail of a wave of wacky suspects.
