Powers has become my favorite author. I'm impressed by his versatility. He seems to be able to write a story set in any environment, playing with any theme, and working with an amazing range of characters. In addtion, I always learn things whle reading his novels. The principal character is a doctor. He works with young patients who have severe problems in a hospital in poor section of a city. I like this book best at the moment, but I also very impressed by The Gold Bug Variations, which...
