Ride the Wind

by Lucia St Clair Robson

In 1836, when she was nine years old, Cynthia Ann Parker was kidnapped by Comanche Indians. This is the story of how she grew up with them, mastered their ways, married one of their leaders, and became, in every way, a Comanche woman. It is also the story of a proud and innocent people whose lives pulsed with the very heartbeat of the land. It is the story of a way of life that is gone forever.... (read review)

This one made me bawl too, which is why its memorable. Wanderer...sigh. Love him. I haven't reread this since I was a teenager. I don't know if it would hold up. But it will forever hold a special place in my heart for having made me stay up until three in the morning with a flashlight under my covers, crying, and hoping that Wanderer and his Blue Eyes would be reunited.

I was concerned that this would be a stereotypical depiction of the clash between white settlers and Native Americans, but I was wrong. It was interesting, thought provoking and educational. The plot was slightly predictable, but not enough to make it boring.

A story about Cynthia Ann Parker, captured as a little girl and raised by Comanches as one of them. Well written, lots of fascinating detail, but (in my view) overly sympathetic to the Comanches.

I read this book in my 20's and it is still VIVID in my mind. Cynthia Ann Parker was kidnapped by Indians after witnessing them raping and murdering her family. She eventually fell in love with and married the brave who was a part of it all. A true story with pictures.

This goes down as one of my top two. I loved every minute of this book. I read it years ago and still recommend and think about this book. Of course, I feel very connected to this time period (native america) and enjoy reading about it immensely.

I LOVE this book. I'vr read it many times. I don't have it any more because my copy wore out.
It's an amazing story about Cynthia Ann Parker, who was kidnapped by the Comanche at the tender age of eight. How she not only survived, but learned to live inside their culture, grow up to marry a young chief, and bear a son. Quannah grew up to become the last wild Comanche Chief.

This is an excellent story about America, and the origins of the Native American Church.

I no longer have this book but wish now I had kept it. What a wonderful book - has to be one of my all time favourites.

A wonderful true story about Cynthia Ann Parker who was kidnapped by the Comanche. This story is about how she grew up with them, learned their culture and their ways, married one of their leaders and had a son Quanah, who was the last Comanche chief. A great book and story that will stay with you for a long time.
