Liked It“I read this novel three times. I was completely captivated and the author drew me into the love story. It is one I will read again. Very few novels have the ability to touch me in a way this one did. |

As the freedom of her peoplpe is cut short it tells the story from the veiw point of the conquered in a way that has made me absolutly fall in love with this book, I wouldn't recomend it for a young reader since it does have some pretty graphic scenes. But it should be safe for a mature reader to enjoy”

I don't normally read "westerns", but a co-worker recommended this book. I'm glad he did--this was a wonderful novel. While the book is definitely historical in context and based largely on the life of Cynthia Ann Parker, I think the tag historical fiction suits the book better. Nonetheless, it gave me a wonderful sense of what the last days of the Comanche must have been like, as well as insight into how the settlers felt about the Native Americans. A sad story (as most Native American historical accounts are), but one worth telling. I certainly have a better understanding of the Native American culture, for which I'm thankful. The interesting part is that, while the book makes it clear what destroyed the Native Americans' way of life, it does so in a fairly balanced way. The history is a lot more complex than I knew. A long read, but enjoyable and eye-opening. Also a great way to get the feel of a history without reading a boring textbook!

I haven't reread this since I was a teenager. I don't know if it would hold up. But it will forever hold a special place in my heart for having made me stay up until three in the morning with a flashlight under my covers, crying, and hoping that Wanderer and his Blue Eyes would be reunited. ”

The plot was slightly predictable, but not enough to make it boring.”
