A series of unfortunate choices 24 books / 47 members / 126 posts Okay, so what's your biggest, latest disappointment with a book that looked or sounded great, or with a book suggested by someone who you really really respect that turned out to be a dog, or maybe just your favorite bad book of all time....? My latest letdown was "Special Topics in Calamity Physics," which was way too clever in an exhausting way, but which my friend Sue forced me to buy. Still, it paid off in that now there are people at work who after seeing me with the book think I enjoy particle physics as a hobby. So there's that. And my favorite bad book of all time is "The Thorn Birds." 'Nuff said.

I LOVE love to read...! 200 books / 257 members / 36 posts بادبادک باز نوشته خالد حسینی نویسنده گمنامی که با این اثر به شهرتی جهانی رسید. نثر بادبادک باز ساده و قابل فهم است و در ان تعدد شخصیت که باعث گنگی و گیجی خواننده شود وجود ندارد . نویسنده عناصر و اجزا داستان را به خوبی کنار یکدیگرقرار داده است .در ابتدا این رمان نویسنده از تکنیک فلاش بک بهره جسته است(فلاش بک حلقه اتصال بین حال و گذشته است و نه تنها در داستان نویسی بلکه در سینما نیز از ان استفاده میشود به عنوان نمونه همشهری کین اثر اورسون ولز است به سال 1941 است که استفاده از این تکنیک در ان کاملا مشهود است)ما قصد نداریم به شرح داستان بپردازیم بلکه به بیان مختصر نکاتی میپردازیم که دور از چشم بسیاری از خوانندگان است هر چند در مورد ان میتوان ساعتها به بحث و گفتگو نشت اما الان مجال ان نیست و تنها به ذکر پاره ای از مسائل کلیدی میپردازیم .خالد حسینی در این اثر جامعه افغانستان را در دهه 60 با نشان دادن جنگ و و ویران های ان و اوارگی مردم و همینطور نژاد پرستی که در جامعه وجود داشت(نژاد پرستی پشتون ها به هزاره ها که امیر خود اصالتا از پشتون ها بوده است) به زیبائی به تصویر کشیده و به خواننده نشان میدهد.این رمان نقدی است بر قوم گرایی و نژادپرستی قوم در افغانستان و میخواهد بگوید نابسامانی ها و و مشکلات سیاسی واجتماعی افغانستان ریشه در همین قوم گرایی و نژاد پرستی ها دارد.در این اثر نویسنده نشان میدهد که اسلام دستاویزی بوده برای توجیه خشونت که این نکته مهمی است و با خواندن این رمان به ان کاملا پی میبرید.امیدوارم که این توضیحات مختصری که دادم در خواندن و فهم این اثر برای شما مثمر ثمر باشد.

We are not a private group, but the administrators will not resist the urge to delete boring and stupid comments. By the same token, personal attacks on young, slow or otherwise disadvantaged players will not be tolerated. Generally, be nice to other members, but spare not public figures, pop lit superstars, big box stores, politicians and religious leaders. Focus more energy on what is good and even what is great, but feel free to throw a stone when the occasion calls for it. Welcome!

The Winers 41 books / 6 members / 45 posts We don't really wine a lot... do we? This book club was originally formed by co-workers at a South Florida non-profit. Now, the group includes friends and family from the tri-county area AND BEYOND! We are very amenable to reading from a variety of genres and some of us actually finished Anna Karenina! Show offs! Actually, we all just love reading and a great writer/storyteller. The group is more social than serious, but we are all really nice, well-intended readers who like to talk about what we love in a book.
